I'm running a VooDoo2 with half-life.
Just go download the reference drivers from 3dfx.com.
Then go to metabyte.com and download the wicked gl 'minidriver'.

The minidriver isnt _needed_, but for me it increaces average fps from around 45 to over 60.

What rez though? That seems a bit low but if you're running at full rez and 32bit then it's about right maybe?

d3d ISNT made for 3dfx cards. use opengl, icq me,a nd I might be able to help you get opengl to work.

I use dirctX7BETA(me stole them :), witht eh wickedGL drivers. ALL bipmapping is off and I use high res(so I can AWP).

I'm using SLI'ed 12mb monster 3d II's.

I get 11-60 fps(I set my hz@60, can go to 85 but its darker[and it looks worst).

P.S.

this is on MY Pentium 1-200mmx :(

tax return, me looking at gf3, and amd ... dont know if duron or athlon yet. got $2000-3000 to spend :)

I was j/k I know you were.

I first got a maxi-gamer 4mb voodoo1 for $160 i think, when the canopus pure-3d came out, and then sold it for $80 :D

then got a 12mb monster 3D II.

then got another 12mb, and 8mb +300a from Kuffs :D all for $100.

now, its time to get some opengl s***.. looks like a gf3 is coming my way.

Doober: HL doesn't support 32bit colour.

i was thinking about putting my sli voodoos into this AMD 1.333 and seeing how they go.

The ATi Radeon 8500 is going to own the GF3, and I don't care what you say - from the specs I've seen it WILL own GF3 if ATi get their drivers right. Not only that, its a lot cheaper - should be around $300 AU when its released. If you don't believe me take a look here. Then, compare the specs with a GF3 and you will see for yourself that it pales in comparison.

ahhh i have a amd k6-2 500mhz 128meg of ram and a voodoo 2 and i get like 50 fps in small enclosed areas but then when i go any where outside i get like a frame rate of 7 can any one tell me why this is and how to fix it?

Get a better CPU - AMD K6's were notoriously bad in terms of FPU (Floating Point Unit) performance. FPU speed is vital in 3D games. K6's as I said, are weak in this area. Same goes for Cyrix processors *ugh*.

hmmm yeh the prob is man i don't know what motherboard i have so i don't know what chips are compatible with it..... i am getting a 3d prophet 4500 soon though so :)

Well, theres no doubt its a socket 7 board, so your chances of finding a CPU to fit aren't too good. I think a 500 or 600 was the highest mHz K6 CPUs that AMD ever made, though I might be wrong. You are probably better off getting a new motherboard altogether. And the new video card... well don't count on it making too much of an improvement - if your CPU isn't up to task in the FPU area no video card, no matter how fast will help. The video card is only as fast as your CPU and vice versa when it comes to 3D games.

You can force HL to be 32 bit by adding some thing to the short cut command line.

No I don't think that works, Half-Life only supports a 16 bit palette as far as I know.

Hunter there's a command line parameter for halflife that forces 32 bit I used to use it. It won't work on you're voodoo though cause voodoo's only doo 16bit.

Duh, I know that :). HL is based on Quake code so I don't know if it actually supports 32 bit colour palettes.

The textures are probably too small for one to use every colour in the palette so 16bit textures would be fine for most games. What would be the point in having the abilty to force 32 bit if it has no effect Hunter? Note I think there's some Q2 code in there two. Either way the engine is old and should just die like all good old s*** engines should.

Should die alright :). And yes I believe some of the netcode is from Q2.

I can't belive people still want to make mods for it when there's the Q3 engine or the UT engine. What I like about UT is it's object oreinted C whic can make thins easier but also make some real naty bugs that would be hard to fix.

To bad UT suck unless you have a voodoo. :)
