It's crazy. I was at a friends place (FUNZO), and he was having trouble with his Divx codec so we went onto this other friend's (Father Of Fusion) mother's FTP and she had all this crazy Divx stuff. Like codecs and players and encoders and s***. I was like "WTF?!? This is your mother's FTP???"

There was this 10 yr old kid at the last qgl - fark man, he could swear like no ther human on earth. The funny part was that he was too short for his computer and had to kneel on his chair coz he was so short. Teehee.

I remember also at the last lan, this family that just wandered in and jjust started walking around and staring at computers etc..

I dont mind little kids there, as long as they dont bug me and as long as the parents dont start piling in with these pre-teens and fill up the hall with more useless people then usual. I can just image "Ahh f*** you bastardk, fuking tk'ing a******!!!" then this mother nearby "Oi you! Dont swear around my kid!".

If it got that extreme I would just not come anymore. On the plus side though it woul probably stop people leeching porn.

I'm a bit worried about the "kiddies" rockin up. 10 is probably too young to be lanning all day, with no parental supervision. 15/16 is probably ok but the real young kids? There's a concern about pr0n & swearing on CS servers (see thread about pr0n sprays last month) - that means the Lans are going to be even more of a concern.

And as for females showing up, there may not be many girls but there'll be plenty of byatches! ;)

i think that if the parents take their kid to an event thatt eh event shodlnt' have to shape it's self around them.

i mean who the f*** doesn't swear while at a lan. i can sure as hell tell u that i swear my arse off while playing q3. i don't stop for the people i live with even at 1am. so why woudl i stop just cause some ho said don't swear around my kid.

what they have to realise is that lans have a culture. they are the ones who are offended by it. if they don't want their kid in that situation teh door is always open. till midnight anyway.

Thats right - a Lan is just like any other public event - Just because there are a lot of computers and its in a hall, it doesnt mean your 10 yr old is safe and sound. This might sound negative, but I wouldnt be surprised if some 10yr old gamer wonders off and gets hit by a bus or something and the mother blames qgl.

Isnt there some sort of disclaimer for attending them anyway? I remember this story of a pool hall where some 11 yr old was beat up and they got sued because they didn't have an age limit/disclaimer on entry. And while it isnt likely some kid is gonna get beat up, there is an actuality that he/she could get hurt/lost or whatever - and the p's could get uppety at qgl.

If parents don't care enough to wonder what it is their kids get up to when they come to a LAN, I don't think it'll make any difference how many disclaimers were put up. I have the (bad) feeling that most of them simply think its just a little gaming thing and don't really understand what it is all about. We get a few parents emailing us before events and stuff asking us for some information, but not really enough to get a full understanding of what goes on.

Oooh, responsibility. But ppl are raising some good points. Could QGL be held responsible if some kid gets hurt? Should there be an age limit? After all, most of the gamjes played are MA15+, not to mention the pr0n. Though to be fair, QGL doesnt provide the network for filesharing does it? So the pr0n and other filesharing is really against the instructions of the admins, so you couldnt be held responsible, could you?

Oh yeah, and if there was an age limit, how would you enforce it? Turn them away at the door?
