my 8250 screen cost $17 to get fixed @ E&E - and they fixed it again for free nearly 4 months later - since then hasnt stuffed up again.

if its the plastic clip thingo it's like $17 if it the actual screen it is like $50

8210 was known for that screen problem, i had one about a year and a half ago and yes, the paper worked well for about 4 months, then I disowned it for a 8210

There's a place here in Melbourne that will do it for free - ask wherever you got it (Optus, Telstra, whoever) and maybe they can point you to a similar place.

However, I haven't taken mine in yet - to fix it you need to put pressure on the top of the screen and it will continue to accept clock pulses.

An easy fix, which is what I've done with mine for the time being - take a peice of paper, fold it so it's about mm, 8 sheets thick? Fold and place it so it fits between the speaker and the top of the screen.
Put the cover back on, and it should be bulging a tiny bit... but at least the screen works :)

I dropped mine in there a few months back and they did it under warranty. If you go to the Nokia place in the city they will definitely be able to tell you whether the warranty will cover it or not, and they are FAST - I got mine back in under 4 hours. Plus it's worked perfect since, so they do it right first time. :D

the reason this magic piece of paper works, is the contacts that nokia designed in their infinite wisdom purely rely on contact, and the springiness of the pcm material/plastic and the contact point to maintain the before mentioned contact to keep the circuit going. All it takes is a hard bump to make sure that these circuits dont complete, and they come apart.

Jamming the piece of paper in there ensures that these little st00pid contact pieces actually touch each other.
