Mine comes from the time when a bearded dragon jumped out of the garden at a mates place.

none of my mates would play against me on lan when we played quake, i'd keep kicking arses by running amok, so the arrangement was i'd use the axe, they could use any weapon they liked, thats how i got nicknamed axeman.

Nicely put, Scuzzy. Scathing, yet polite.

My name is the same from when I very first started to play online games, which were of course FPSers. Everyone thought my name was a joke :(

For some reason yanks seem to think my name is the funniest thing ever when I play on their servers. Dont get that...

uh.. i was after a new nickname - at the time i was nearly finished reading the Obernewtyn Cronicles, so i just picked one of the random funny words from the books.
(bit weird when i see in a library 'The Farseekers' by Isobelle Carmody)
only one or two people have picked up where its from.

I loved the Obernewtyn Chronicles, although i read them when i was in year 7, almost 6 years ago now, but they were great, the last book was my favourite, can't remember the title though.

My name is Latin for wolf, well Lupine is, and Lupin - The castle of Cagliastro was the first Anime movie i ever saw, that was about the same time i started playing mp games on lan... and i needed a name, its been here ever since, and i cant change it due to all the confusion it would cause.

n.
A raised platform, as in a lecture hall, for speakers or honored guests.

Well you could misinterpret that as me being conceited, but really it's that I like to help people :]

Then went on to play with a series of pointy brackets "<><".

Embarrassingly enough, my name goes back to my D&D days. It's the name I made up for a wizard I was playing. I thought it was pretty original back then (about 10 years ago) but when I got into the internet a few years later and did a search, it is everywhere :( theres even a "Metrix Hoses Pty Ltd" registered in Victoria :(

It is commonly confused with "Matrix" and "Metric", both annoy me :-/

Tollaz0r!
Location: Brisbane, Queensland
Tollaz0r! sprung from Toll, the ! is used as a subtle eye catcher, the az0r bit comes from the internet word j0r, which comes from phw0re..

Then Toll came from Toll Booth Willy. Which is a funny skit from an Admin Sandler soundtrack somewhere. I choose Toll Booth Willy because it was differnt to all the 1 word names that were being used.

Before that I used Yoshimitsu, and a whole bunch of other names. My first nick used for multiplayer games was Wraith used in a 14 hour game of LAN doom.. then used it on Quakeworld Team Fortress untill I played on a server with another Wraith, we talked and found that he used the name first so I looked for another..

I got 'cyph' from 'cypher'. No, not the Matrix cypher at all.

I was actually reading a book and saw the word 'cipher', and thought "hey, that'd be pretty cool if I changed the i to a y", which I did.

People just called me cyph though, so I shortened it to cyph.

Ecstasy (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine)

· A state of being carried away by overwhelming emotion
· A state of elated bliss

At the time I was talking to a Girlfriend of mine after a school social and telling her how fun it was and how much I enjoyed myself dancing with her and others.

I was after a new nickname and after enjoying myself so much after the school dance I was excited wanted to party more and more. So it came into my mind of the "State Of Elated Bliss" and is also relevant to Ecstasy being the "Party Drug".

So I adapted the name "Ecstasy" but wanted to make it a little different then the normal, so I went with changing the 'T' to a 133+ style making it stand out as ']['.

So It ended up as... Ecs']['asy.

necra.. sifnt your name came from necrophiliac

greydens my real name, i got sick of everyone calling me acrylic, sure it was cool the first few times, then my parents started doing it, and after awhile i just got sick of hearing acrylic acrylic, so i decided to use spud (lame joke) but that got boring, so now i use greyden. and every now and again you will see me as mr.kite, which is from a beatles song "being for the benefit of mr kite" which is from an old poster

http://www.beatlesagain.com/images/kite1.jpg

On January 31, 1967 the Beatles went to Knole Park near Sevenoaks in Kent to make the promotional film for Strawberry Fields Forever. "There was an antique shop close to the hotel we were using in Sevenoaks," remembers former Apple employee Tony Bramwell. "John and I wandered in and John spotted this framed Victorian circus poster and bought it."

im a bit of a huge beatles fan and i didnt want to go call myself lucy, so i went for something that wasnt so popular

My nick in high school was Oracle.
I changed it in year 12 to Andraxis, cause I was sick of seeing people with the same nick =]

The actual nick was a variation of a book series that is both rare and brilliant (the Andrakis Trilogy... try finding book 3 nowadays)

After a few weeks my friends shortened it to Draxy. Now about 90% of the people I know online only know me by that nick.

Although on AUS-1 a starcraft australian server, I was known as Lan for the last 2-3 years. This nick was taken from Robert Jordan's series WoT. I don't use this nick alot but in the SC:BW world I have made a few friends under it.

Anyways, thats my story and thats it.

Well, it all happened one day when I was climbing everest. I noticed some taliban (back then we called em all ragheads, but I digress), types looking to plant a bomb in my then supermodel girlfriends backpack. "Look out Cameron" I screamed, inadvertently causing an avalanche to occur.

Now, I'd paid for the trip with sponsors funds from my snowboard deal with Burton, and I needed a break from my part time duties as contract combat flight instructor at the US air force. And I was NOT going to cut my trip short because a couple of ragheadsfundamentalists were trying to spoil my day, so I "Vin Diesel in xXx"-style surfed on a used maccas tray down the treacherous west face of Everest before launching a rodeo 900 off a disintegrating cornice. The last screaming words of those sons of allah before the ice engulfed them were "gooooo!', obviously hooting me on. But because the rotation of the board was so fast, and the atomsphere was so thin, the sound had this wierd doppler effect so it sounded like "gobogobogobogobo".

Anyway, I a bolt of lighting took out the maccas tray as I was about to land, luckily I threw a handy sliver of ice I happened to have grabbed at the DEMON whjo appeared below me, skewering it through the heart and causing it instant death. I then landed on the demon feet first, and skated down everest to safety. His dying words were "god...bother".

So in the end I ended up adopting a shortened version of the death screams of my foes, "Gobo" as my online nick.

Either that or an ex-ex-ex-ex-ex gf and I used to get half pissed and watch fraggle rock together (don't ask) and one time she started poking my mouth with her fingers and saying "Gobo teef gobo teef". And then when I started playing quake online I used it.

But I prefer the first story.

I don't recall exactly but I think this is what occurred.

Many many years ago I was reading Revelations and towards the end I read about the Tree of Life, whose fruit, if eaten, grants eternal life. A few days later, sick to death of my previous nickname (which was shockingly bad), I quickly changed my nick to the first thing I thought of, which incidentally was the Tree of Life. It sounded good at the time and it was fairly different so I stuck with it.

Now knowing that it's used in many different religions and countless fantasy tales, (and being accused of copying things in Eva and Warcraft 3, just to name a few) the meaning behind the name is alot richer and deeper and frankly I have no problem with that. :)

Btw i'm not Christian.

Spooon is short for "The Spooon of Truth"

Which came about one day during out lovely Advance Science Class way back in Year 10, where we did nothing more then throw stuff at each other and piss the teacher off.... one day i decided to get creative and flick water with a plastic teaspoon at Hast, Rubba Chikin, Loki and anyone else who was near me... I then carried the spoon around for about a week threating Hast with the wrath of "the spoon of truth" at random occasions... then I think Loki broke the spoon..

the 3 O's came about as a typo when i made a hotmail account which was around the time when AoX was raining as one of the Top TFC clans in the country, after the collapse of AoX, it got reversed into NooopS for no particular reason

I could also be found using various other nics, such as Axiom, CurtainNinja, and Menikmati but i have since stopped using any of those because more people recognise me as spooon.

I have no clue what my nick was when I played quake on netspace aaaggges ago

for a while I was refered to as Torpedoes, this originated from the MDFMK song which I used to just have on repeat when I'd own with my SPACECAR!!!111 in 7.1 cs...
yes anyway... it was simply dropped down to Torps - which I still sometimes use

Well when I started out online I used Slayer as a nickname and everyone ASSUMED I liked the band....then some retarded little tool came onto a talker I had been using for a couple of years abusing me for taking HIS nickname.....so I told him he could have it if he could get it in the time it took me to nuke the character and get it banned from the talker permanently. He failed.....

At the time I was reading some AD&D books and I was pretty into the AD&D games of the time (Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, etc) and took the name Manshoon from a character in there. Since the nickname I had in high school was inherited from my older brother I think making my own up was a better choice. Mainly my nick get shorted to shoonie or shoon by friends.

Oh and as a side note....it had nothing to do with MAN SIZED MUSHROOMS as some people think.

i used to use ribinabj (ribina berry juice) 'cause my name's robin. then, after fast tracker 2 kinda died, i decided i wanted a new name.

i really f***ing love the name romeo, so i called myself darkromeo, or in q3a, ^^0Dark^1Romeo (black+red), but the name is certainly common, and some people thought i was black, because of the word dark.

so then i was a smart ass and called myself unique identifier on icq, but got sick of that real quick (too long).

i wanted a short name, no more than six letters, so i got the initials of DarkRomeo and Unique IDentifier, and got druid. and i added the dots 'cause at the time i was in a programming lesson, and i like to use classes, so when i start a server for a game, i call it "druid.server". ok i digress.

back in year 8 i had great aspirations of playing cricket and captaining a team, being sri lankan, a left handed batsman, and having aspirations of captaincy, the coach at the time called me arjuna, short for arjuna ranatunga, the captain at the time.

that got warped to many different things, arjie, juna, rany, ranatunga, tunga, abunga ranatunga vaasonblaaskyjenkins, and finally, to tung.

in cs i played originally as Ayatollah, which was a mix between an interest in the hebrew and islamic learnings i believe, and the fact that chris jericho was called the Ayatollah of Rock and Rollah, which i thought was pretty damn funky.

went through a few nicks like 'The Sisko' and singularity, and s*** like that, NeoCommie is probably what most cs players remember me by, but tung is who i am, my friends call me it, my friends parents call me it, and my parents call me it on occasion :|

ReaX : pronounced "Re Axe"- bastardised from plain RX from years of Teamfortress original. RX was shortened from receive (you know Tx and Rx transmit and receive), as i was always an engineer and used to defend, so therefore receive. Go figure. I actually got sick of people asking what RX stood for, most people thought it was short for RX7 and later on becasue i bought a subaru. Anyway here's something for a laugh, found an old telecom manual for exchange equipment.

Exocet
Posts: 3764

I got it from Ben Elton's book 'Popcorn'. It was talking about how first there was the tommohawk, then the exocet, the ...(something) was just naturally next.

Before that, I was Sprawler Grunt - taken as the primary unit in DR2 of the sprawlers.

Before that - JTHM, or Johnny The Homicidal Maniac. And then, as it was taken around the place, I appended _777 onto it, as in the comic, 777 was JTHM's street address.

Even earlier, was Gourge. That's going back about 6 years now, when I was just using IRC

umm i used to be called Silent-Bob back when tribes1 came out
time went on, and later i joined a clan called [helpme] and the tradition of the helpme crew was having names of dead famous people, so i, liking the name bob, chose Bob Marley.

umm after helpme broke up most people knew me as bobmarley so i kept the name.
changing it to undefinedhero for a bit but i got bored of that and people didnt really know who i was, then after a while again i changed it to vide.ante (vide ante meaning see before in latin) just for the net CS clan im in, ethereal
still use bobmarley most the time tho.

well i only ever used to LAN all the time and I went by the name of Spider, wehn i graduated to the online community I discovered (oh what a surprise) that there were already many people using the name Spider, so i just shortened it to Spidz, there were still people using spidz, so I chucked a * on the end.

very lame I know...

I alos use T-BoNe in game a bit cause thats my nickname in real life, pretty much anything that starts with "T" my mates call me.

ut its from the movie Evil Roy Slade, a prequel to movies like Blazing Saddles - comedy western with John Astin (Gomez) playing a bumbling outlaw, with such quotes as: "my idea of a nine to five job is nine men robbing five men"

my real name is Kory so some how came up with HardKor pretty simple when u think about it
anyways was in a clan called th3 Fall3N so i became FalleN_HardKor, but then it disbanded
went back 2 HardKor which i use @ LAN, but @ home i watch alot of serial experiments lain and sit on the net, which in lain is called the wired, so on the net i go by the name Wired_HardKor
lately though met an exchange student from japan and have been learning some japanese. one word in particular i've started using as my LAN name is Fuzakeruna, which means "don't f*** with me"
i thought it was appropriate ^_^

Mias well post mine..

I got my nick from a game i was adicted to when all i had for gaming was a 486 DX2 50 @ 66 ¬_¬;

I used to be addicted to a game called Stars! 2, There was a ship in it called a MetaMorph..
And that was my nick.. back as it was with my previous nick and im sure for a bunch of other people here I was just called Meta by everyone else..

Dunno why i got the carrots (^) on it..

Also a few friends have been calling me Metaball of late.. so i ocasionaly use that name.

Long story cut short

Back in the QWTF days (only a few people around here would remember) i was asked to slut for some noob clan where every1's name had an S at the start. I was just spurting out names when i though of Striker

so i used Striker for a while, but when i hopped into the cs scene, every1 kept on asking me if i was sog striker, so i had to change my name a little bit. Thats where the infamous 3 came from.

My nick pre-dates any gaming or IRC or the internet ! I was loping along through the ever-loving fortitude valley early one morning as was my wont, when i noticed a fiesty derolict shuffling & weaving unsteadily on a street corner. As a keen student of dero-linguistics I decided to prompt him for a reply ! 'chupta moite?' I drawled. He narrowed his already beady eyes, then flared them out wildly & exclaimed 'chaaafugnloognat!@# suunnaffabitch seenbiguhblogzenyugodown!@#' then he rapidly passed his palms over his face & staggered backwards as if in shock. 'demon ... DEEEEEMMMMAAWWWWWNN!!' then keeled over sideways & went to sleep.
The rest is history.
yeh well .. beats gobo's story ! :D

sKryBe

sKryBe is a bastardised version of scribe

scribe Pronunciation Key (skrb)
n.
A public clerk or secretary, especially in ancient times.
A professional copyist of manuscripts and documents.
A writer or journalist.
See scriber.

Well I am a public servant and an aspiring writer so it seemed natural. It became hackerfied for a couple reasons - one Scribe was taken, and two cos my initials are KB. So with a little hackerfication sKryBe was born.

But when I game I play as Lameness Personified. That's even more simple - people accuse me of being lame all the time so why deny it :)

You can't beat doober! I doubt if it has any real meaning to it, it's so old i've forgotten why i chose it (the second best kind of nick). Kind of around the days of wing commander 2 days i think. It doesn't even list on www.dictionary.com , i think its an abbreviation of dooberwhacky (like thingamajig or whatchamacallit) but some people have told me it's some pot related term (not into it myself) but i don't know.

Hmm, actually i wonder if my post in this old thread is here still but sif be bothered reading through 8 pages of it.

Well.. I was Felix (named because of my dog, felix) but I don't have my dog Felix anymore (long long long story.. I don't have the boyfriend that beat my dog anymore either) so I needed a change, spoke to someone on IRC who said
"Oh, what about Grosby, because you're cool, like the shoes"

So I am Grosby, because I'm cool, like the shoes. (and my new watch)

I remember this topic came up, at the first CPL-P in Melbourne a few years ago.

SAS (StreX, Sprinkles, JaX, Mirage and ?) and mP teams 1 and 2 (Predat0r, swat0r, Fade, Toll, Geno, DeePeR, WaR-FaC, DeF-CoN and Nihilst and myself) hung out at some place in Flemington near the event, and drunk copious amounts of alcamahol telling the stories of how we got our nicks.

Man, those were the days.
