Someone had told me that when I turn my modem off and turn it back on in a couple of hours it'll get assigned to a new router, how is it possible to check what router you are on and how to test the performance? |

i wouldnt believe them as far as i could throw them. each area has its own router, and your the serial number of your modem is assigned to the router in your area. thats why u cant just goto your mates house who has cable who lives in a different area, and plug your modem in. I moved house about 3 km, and my modem wouldnt work even tho i had a foxtel port in my room. had to ring up telstra and get them to activate my modem serial in the router for this area. |

logins will work on ANY moden (on the same network), they jus goto the auth server. u can move modems around, there is no such serial number assign to routers stuff, cause thats not possible thru DHCP (as far as i know) you can use a trace route porgrams or "tracert dce-server" in the command prompt and see the routers it goes through so what if ur on a different router?? unless the firmware is affected then it will just act the same. |

hmm maybe it sends the serial number to the auth server, that would work, but not to the router. also u gotta have the correct attenuatior on the end of the line or else it wont work either` |

When a tech came to fix my power supply i was asking him and he said that every night around 12, the router searchs a list of modem serials and plans that they're on and hence can tell which bios to flash to your modem (which speed). Theres alot of different rumours going around, but i believe this guy, he seemed pretty switched on. |
