A better idea would be to sign up for a new Optus choices plan, either enabling a new Optus product or change your existing product plans, hence locking you into a new 12 month, 800mb a day, net stats plan.
Do this before 1st July.

Pretty sure they do account adjustments on weekends (dont quote me). All you have to do is add or adjust a product/account by phone, and select a new choices package. I've spoken to a few people that have successfully negotiated a fresh 12 month Netstats contract.

Yeah, they mention something about the contract commencing on the date of the install, not when you speak to them. I'm not really sure about it to be honest.
It may be too late.

When will I need to choose a new OptusNet Cable plan?
You can stay on your existing Lightning Fast plan until the end of your 12 month commitment, or you can change to one of the new usage-based plans after 1 August. To change plans, simply click here. Please note, if you change to a new usage-based plan, you'll be bound by the new Customers Terms and Acceptable Use Policy. These can be viewed when you go online to change plans.

there you go, i thought it was august 1st, i am asking tim which one he chose to allow his netstats for another 12mnths...

I think the August the 1st date is applicable to people whos contracts are EXPIRING pretty soon - when they say choose a plan , they mean select one of the new usage based plans, not a netstat plan.

ok straight from the Optus AUP

8.6 For the purpose of this clause;
a. 'Average Customer Usage' -
Before 1st August 2002: means the average amount of bandwidth consumed by all users of the Service over the Usage Period (after removing from the calculation the highest and lowest 5% of bandwidth users), as determined by Optus. To do this, Optus will use information gathered from the users' modems. The intention of the 'normalisation' of the Average Customer Usage is to avoid skewing the calculation towards the extremities of usage.

From 1st August 2002 onwards: means 1,120MB over the Usage Period.
b. 'Usage Period' means any consecutive 14 day period during which Optus provides the Service to you. The 'rolling' nature of the Usage Period is deliberate and designed so that trends in the user's Usage are evident and that an intense one-off period of usage in itself may not cause the user to breach the threshold of ten (10) times' Average Customer Usage;
c. a 'day' runs from midnight to midnight;
d. the Monitor normally updates daily and the updated Monitor will be available as soon as practicable each day;
e. Optus may at its sole discretion, adjust the calculation of your Usage or the Average Customer Usage over any days within the Usage Period due to any factors that, in Optus' opinion, may have a significant impact on those calculations.

so u lil leeching boiz are still safe for another month :)

On 1 July 2002, we're introducing four new OptusNet Cable plans to replace the Lightning Fast plan. You can stay on your existing Lightning Fast plan until the end of your 12 month commitment, or you can change to one of the new plans after 1 August. If you remain on your existing Lightning Fast plan, it's important you are aware of the changes to My NetStats outlined below.

Changes to My NetStats
If you decide to remain on your existing Lightning Fast plan, from 1 August there will be a change made to My NetStats. From this date, the My NetStats "Average Customer Usage" will be permanently fixed to 1,120MB over any rolling 14 day period. You can still use up to ten times the Average Customer Usage (ie. 11,200MB) for each usage period, however if you exceed this limit your service may be suspended and/or terminated. Click here to view the new Acceptable Use Policy outlining these changes.

Okay i just rang the helpdesk and after my 20 minute wait of gay gay piccolo music and the tech confirmed for me that:
anyone off contract does not start the new usage plans till August 1

and Lachie i dont think that leeching was a very good idea can you say bye bye optus now?
