For all those that care, I've narrowed down the problem in my new PC to be the sound card and just in Quake 3 (haha, the irony) - for some reason, any time I have sound on in q3, I get 50% less frames. I can use s_mixahead and set it to 0.06, and it makes it go a lot faster, but its still not as fast as it should be going. Q2 seems to benchmark ok, but I don't know what else I can use to benchmark - is it possible to do timedemos with HL engine or something?

Trog are u using a SB Live!? If so it is a common problem with the latest 1.27h patch apparently. I suffer from it slightly at the mo also.

I have been following some forums on planetquake and ID are trying to nail the bitch.

Got my 1 gig cpu the other day too..know anyone who wants to buy a p3/800EB (133fsb)

Psycho, yeh, I saw a thread on quake3world.com.

Moridin, you don't know the half of it. Extrapolate my bad luck in computers to just about everything else, and that's me.

Trog, you say you are losing 60 frames. What does the frame rate start at?
Cause, if I started losing 60 frames, my framerate would be going into the negatives...
