Here's how I did it: Install Windows 2000 Pro with 2 network cards in the PC. O@H plugged into 1, and LAN into the other. The cable works without changing any settings as long as ur computer name is right. Go to network properties for ur O@H card, go to the second tab, and click "Enable Internet Sharing on this connection". That's it - no rebooting or anything :) |

Believe me, if you are not running a firewall, you are heading for a whole lot of pain. I used to use that Win2k setup, but I now have a linux ipchains firewall set up here. I had no idea how often people try and port scan you on @Home!!! I'm not kidding when I say that the ipchains logs almost fill the /var partition without any trouble, and it is only logging the DENY packets. |

You know what, I think QGL needs a "how to get this s*** working" section. If anyone wants to write one up for me (I'm talking a good, secure implementation) then I'd be most appreciative, otherwise I'll have to do it myself. |

how about a useful tips section of ausgamers u could cut and paste responses from the forum (useful ones) and maybe allow ppl to post responses to questions it'd have to be structured, like broken up into sub sections, OS q+a, gaming, hardware etc etc just a thought |

Koopz word of advice invest in a router sharing it through one computer is just asking for problems. i should know my bro and I use O@H through a lan at home and u can use a prgram called winproxy but it causes to many problems. Just invest in a router it stops all the problems. If u want a firewall program try zonealarm. |

Hey trog, I don't really have time to actually write a guide for linux, but I can't recommend highly enough the Linux Documentation Project for this sort of stuff. LinuxDoc Also, there is a linux guru called Manfred Bartz who hangs around the @Home Linux newsgroup, and he has put up a page on how to get @Home cable working with linux, as well as getting dhcpcd working, and a good set of ipchains rules to use too: Connecting to @Home with dhcpcd Manfred's Page There's some stuff to go with :) Oh, and for anybody considering it, also consider a 2.4.0 kernel and using iptables, it is apparently much better than ipchains, it's just not as well documented yet... (I haven't tried it yet :) |
