Do Paintball guns need to be licensed here? If so, does the license go with the gun, or with a person who is allowed to own one? |

I looked this up about a year ago for Airsoft guns which are used for skirmish like paintball guns except they shoot small plastic pellets instead of paintballs. The best thing about airsoft is that the guns you get actually use magazines and look like real guns, also the pellets dont leave bruises just sting (though you have to trust the ppl u play with not to cheat). Go to http://www.dentrinityshop.com then choose products->aeg-> then one of the marui series. Most of them are electric, some pistols use gas. To get these dentrinity guns from from Hong Kong where the sport of Airsoft is big, you need to get a private importers license and to own an Airsoft gun you need a gun license. Its more of a hassle than expensive. I think most of this applies to paintball guns too. |

I don't know for sure, but reckon it would be comsidered a firearm. Easiest thing to do would be call your local police station and ask them, or the mob who do firearm licences. |

The license goes with the person. The person has to have a valid reason to own the marker. Usually membership in a paintball club is valid enough reason. Just call up yoru local paint field and ask them. |

Fun it can be... But I don't know why, everytime I play paintball, I end up playing with pricks who won't admit that they've been hit. I even caught one guy on my team trying to wipe the paint off himself when he got hit. |

Yeah I know one guy who lost his peripheral vision after his visor broke when he was playing paintball. I'd say they are something that should require at least some kind of safety course to own. |

That's an angel? I'm not too sure of current marker tech but angels used to be the big thing in paintbull guns - full electronic control. You could even attach them to a laptop (iirc) and download all sorts of data and stuff about your match. They fired something silly like 20 rounds a second too. |

Angels are not the only electronic markers these days. And I think the fire rate for the first series of Angels was 15 rounds/s. Another thing that's interesting is the Tippman Flatliners, it can out range any marker without breaking tournament regulations regarding muzzle velocity. |

you have to have a license to own a paintball gun, and 15 to actually play. airsoft, is illeagal hear, but you are allowed to have an airsoft gun if you have a licence, provided it has a orange colored muzzle cap indicating its a replica or not a real gun. Most of the airsoft guns you see around are exact replicas, and your not allowed to own a replica gun without a licence. this is all sketchy information, well what i know atleast. i might be wrong |

replica hand guns made of die cast metals that dont shoot or anything if it shot something it wouldnt be a replica would it... i guess u could have one that shot BB's or nerfball or somethin... Who has seen the movie "Snatch", in that those 2 black wannabe robber fellas have those replica pistols that fire blanks... what would stop you from puttin in a live round and it becoming a normal gun? hehe that scene is funny, ...the side of your guns says replica, on the side of my gun is desert eagle point five o... |

I had a mate who was in one of the top aus paintball 'clans' - warlords who I used to talk to a lot about paintball. You do need a gun licence and the guns are expensive, and if you get involved in it big time its very expensive, mainly for ammo because its not like the pissy little pump action guns these good ones shoot like machine guns at 300ft per second. He was telling me about different ammo storage techniques and stuff as well, like you have to keep the balls at certain temperatures for the best accuracy. Pretty involved stuff, lotta fun though ;-) |

The best site on paintball laws in Australia I have found is at http://www.billspaintball.com/pblaw.shtml Most paintball guns for standard play have an accurate range of around 35 metres. Outdoor lasertag of course has significant better range and is cheaper but you don't get the bruising element that some people like (I don't happen to be one of them). We had a clan war yesterday with 38 players on the field, it was great. www.lasertag.com.au |

I have to say from hundreds of hours on the battlefield doing this stuff that is not my experience. Sure the first game, ppls think they are invincible, they die fast and sit out. Next mission, they are a lot more cautious. It is a common theory that you the need the fear of pain to motivate the players to avoid the enemy, but that does not appear to be it in practice, what you need is the fear of being shot right out of the game. That is the problem with indoor tag, there is no fear of being blown away, your basically immortal. Being able to be killed is an important element of any first person perspective game. |

Yes as previously stated you do need to hold a shooters licence to possess a paintball gun as it is classed as a "firearm". In regards to replica firearms. No you don't need a licence to possess most types of replicas, however certain behaviour with replicas is prohibited under the Weapons Act. You can't carry a replica exposed to view in a public place and you can't commit any act which may cause alarm to another person (which means pointing it at them or waving it around) common sense really. |

Are you sure that is the current law, I know it used to be, but I thought we the tightened legislation now that you had to have a collectors license. That is why we don't have exact replica's, but have metal units that look cool instead. For example the Morita is a full size model of the main assault rifle from Starship Troopers, we used it as a light machine gun most of the time although it can be configured as a mini-gun, if you want pictures go to www.lasertag.com.au/weapons.htm |
