Saw it today.

It's a musical, which would be alright, except all of the songs bar one ("I'd rather be an Aborigine") weren't catchy tunes IMO.

Geoffrey Rush plays a German priest (with a half-arsed German accent that Germans would cringe at). One of the most bizarre parts of the movie is a cut-scene of Rush s***ting in the outback which leaves you asking, "Why?"

Missy Higgins plays a cliche, spaced-out hippy complete with German hippy boyfriend (excellent German accent!) who is probably the star act of the show other than the main character, Willy.

Jessica Mauboy is also solid as a wannabe popular singer - of course a role she should slot right into with her Idol background!

Not every movie about Aboriginals has to be political - and this one most certainly isn't. This is supposed to be a comedy, except it seems to run a bit short on laughs.

The story line is abstract, disjointed and makes no sense at all. The little plot that exists wraps around on itself into a ridiculous, twisted and inconceiveable mess.

It has it's funny moments, though, and you won't be quite bored for 1½ hours - in parts you will really question the direction and the movie's idea of 'good entertainment'.

For a light-hearted movie to show your 12yo kid this movie might cut it. For anyone else, see something else!

i had no f***ing idea it was a musical from the trailers i'd seen, gave no indication at all because they know most people know that musicals are s***. not that i would have gone and seen it anyway

same as Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, when i saw the trailer for that i was like sweet, lucky i didn't go and see it on opening night or something so i could be informed that it was a horrible musical

i love musicals and this one was great. very short catchy songs, lots of different genres and real great scenery.

it's also a good sort of road trip movie, like Charlie and Boots. i laughed a lot and enjoyed the songs so for me that makes it a winner.
