As the title suggests, I found a 1000 fps HD video of an owl doing serious owl business in slowmo.

I've done some youtube trickery to get this to show in HD at a large size, so this embed is very much experimental.
Even on ADSL2+ I couldn't stream fast enough, so I'd suggest pausing the video until it's completely loaded.

(Original low-res video linked from: Bad Astronomy).

it must use that really evil face it has at the end to stun its prey just prior to grabbing it.

That stare... its eyes don't even move.

Many Owls can't move their eyes. That's why you see them turn their heads so much.

Great stuff, as always!

On the ADSL2+ streaming note mine loaded way faster than played, so streaming was no probs.

Give us some background story about the owl, how you set up the shot (some sort of prey or glove?) etc, etc

Thats pretty cool. Afterwards I did a search on youtube for Photron SA-2 and came up with some more stuff. It must be hard shooting at that speed to get nice bright photos. I assume that why the aperture on the camera is so large.

Hmm? It's not my video (I've now changed the post to make this clear), though the Info section of the youtube video gives more details and a link.

thats an awesome video of the sneezing, it really drives home the point of covering your mouth
I don't mind telling complete strangers to cover their mouth when they cough/sneeze, its f***ing disgusting

Was having a 'sandwich' on my front balcony early one saturday morning a few weeks ago, I turned around and there was a massive owl sitting on the railing 2 feet from my head. I screamed and it screamed and we both ran/flew away.

s*** was intense.

Was it actually an owl? I've never seen an owl in the wild before, but I've seen plenty of Tawny Frogmouths, which I learned aren't actually an owl at all.
