I need some advice or reccomendations based on experience with ADSL2.
I am moving into a new place soon and have to organise a naked adsl2 connection for the home. Basically I am tossing up between TPG, Internode and iinet. I have flat out avoided Optus and Telstra because of the price and all of the complaints I have heard about service from other people. The plan we are looking for would be around the 50-80gb mark. My issue is TPG seem to offer the best value for money with their plans but I have heard differing comments on the service and relaibility with their ADSL2 connections. Obvious things I want to avoid is customer service hassles and random dropouts and re-connects. TPG --- Naked ADSL2+ 150GB $79.99 150GB3 (18 month contract has $80 setup fee)(65GB+85GB) Internode ---- Home-NakedExtreme-50 $79.95 ($79 establishment fee with 24 month contract) NakedExtreme ADSL2+ Speeds 50 Gbytes iinet ---- Naked Home 4 30GB + 30GB $79.95 ($195 connection fee!!!) So does anyone have any suggestions or comments on what might be the best choice? |

Watch if uploads are counted towards your quota, I know they are with iinet.

all 3 are fine:
get down to the nitty gritty, the node/iinet will be a better service, but you pay for it; inode dont count uploads, so they are probably win (if your exchange supports them) |

The iiNet connection fee is $79 isn't it? Also have 6 months you can cancel/churn/whatever without penalty AFAIK.

Is there any comparison there.
I've had IInet ADSL2+ before, yes it was quick, but the service was hopeless. They constantly overcharged me, took ages to connect, and when I moved house it was like asking them to move the entire suburb let alone just my connection. A friend got TPG naked DSL2+ a month in Nundah a month ago. It was connected within 2 days of the application going in. She supplied her own modem and has had no problem with it. Plus she now has 150gb of available warez downloads which no other company can offer for that price. |

I cant go past internode for speed/reliability/value. Am currently on a legacy internode plan ($75 for 25 gig) but moving in 2 months and will go onto the NakedExtreme50 with luck.
I've been warned away from TPG by too many people citing horrible speeds/pings during peak times. |

On a network full of leechers which means congestion can be a problem and also for gaming it is very hit and miss, at least that was my experiance with TPG. Internode don't charge you for dl's, so if you are on a private tracker that requires ratio maintainance then you can download 50gig and upload 100gig if you want and it doesnt matter. Iv had internode at home for years now and at work and Iv moved at least 3 times and it has been perfect everywhere. |

ive been with iinet now for probably 5 years or so
they have been 100% awesome, when i wasnt moving house (which was only once) and then they were terrible. so i give the same advice to everyone who uses iinet, when you move house, call them everyday to check on your progress, else your job seems to slip betweent he cracks, i dont know why, becuase the rest of the time their service is awesome; the only thing against their naked plans if the counting of uploads. i upload constantly, so their plans woudlnt be big enough for if i went naked |

inode dont count uploads, so they are probably win (if your exchange supports them) They do now on that plan Tiny mentions I believe - pays to check, anyway. I have had iiNet and now have Internode - recommend both. A++ to both of them. If you are a big EPL fan iiNet's freezone might tip you that way (did for me) - they have streaming 512kbit EPL games included. Also I have Naked DSL - fastest way to get it up and going (~2 weeks) is to connect Telstra landline, get phone number, then use phone number for Naked DSL application (which will disconnect the landline). Costs you ~$60 to connect landline, but way way quicker. The alternative is you try and get Naked straight off the bat and that will take ~2 months. |

So are you saying i pay the fee and get the telstra landline connected and then disconnect it.
Then i contact internode for example and request a naked ADSL2 plan. This cuts alot of time wasting? Does it make any difference if the previous tenants had a land line connected? Does this mean i can dodge this pinky and go straight to connecting the plan? |

So are you saying i pay the fee and get the telstra landline connected and then disconnect it. Depends how thorough the previous tenants were. If they forgot to d/c their phone (our previous owners did!) -you might be able to get away with it. Just ring your mobile to see if you can get the landline phone number if it's not a private number. Otherwise, connecting the landline again is the fastest option to getting Naked up - just costs you the bloody connection fee. I know, it's bloody annoying and ridiculous, but there it is. |

Internode only count uploads on their twoPlus plans which is non naked ADSL2 through a telstra DSLAM.

Pinky,
Assuming their is no landline currently connected. Do I ring telstra, get the landline connected and then disconnected. Then, do I ring the ISP and request the ADSL2? Or do i get the landline connected and then get the naked DSL connected before i disconnect the landline? |

Home-NakedExtreme-50 $79.95 That's the plan I'm on, the best internet I've had since truly unlimited Bigpond cable back in the day. Crazy amounts of unmetered traffic, especially with Australia Steam content servers unmetered. Internode only count uploads on their twoPlus plans Incorrect. They only count uploads on the $50 Easy Broadband plan (Proof 1, Proof 2) then you can download 50gig and upload 100gig if you want and it doesnt matter. Well it does to an extent. You'll find there's return traffic (ACKs, other torrent protocol traffic, etc) that's roughly 1/20th of what you upload (in my experience with P2P traffic). Still better than having uploads counted that's for sure, but just something to keep in mind if you find some quota going missing. last edited by parabol at 13:29:27 19/Nov/09 |

I was in Brisbane, submitted the online naked DSL application for my place in Melbourne before the lease date started (I know, I was cheeky!). I had no idea on the phone number, if the line was connected or anything so just gave iiNet the house address and 10 business days later it was connected. |

I read this when you posted it in my thread back then (trying to do the same thing as Tiny) and I tried to do exactly the same thing - because I can't live without the intarwebs - and Internode told me that they couldn't provision the line in someone else's ownership because they couldn't guarantee the timeframe when it would be done. It sounded like they just submit a job to some system saying 'get it done' and then someone else (I think Optus tech in my case) just waltzes past and sorts that s*** out when he can and then updates the job database that it's sorted - and the rest happens. |

In that case I am going straight to applying for the Naked ADSL2 with internode if available. If not I am going with TPG i guess and fingers crossed I will have no hassles. Sounds like a mixed response for TPG though in general. I will find out who is hooking up the landline and hassle those barstards like no tommorow. (I am use to dealing with telstra on a daily basis so I know who what to do). Failing that we have optus cable I think at out our home so I will just get it hooked up via cable. (I just found out about this) |

On the phone line thing. Friend had no phone line so had to get a phone line. Problem was it was a 3 month minimum contact for getting a phone line. Had it connected for a day, just so they could get Naked DSL.

Internode are awesome... but you pay for it.
TPG might be interesting now since they're buying Pipenetworks :D (f***!) |
