Topic: Half Life Servers?

Hi all,

Just want to get reacquainted with an old friend in Half Life and wanted to connect to some internet games. I've searched for servers, but none seem to work. I've downloaded what I think is the latest patch in 1.1.1.0.

Any hints?

Living I guess, i was given HL and wanted to play some death matches as it was something I enjoyed doing 9 years ago. I know WON went down years ago, but I'm sure people can set up their own game servers surely...

fyi, I wasn't being a smart arse... years and years ago I played HL:DM with a bloke from Perth called One Eyed Willy.

With you nick as willy and being from Perth I thought you might have been him.

Anyway carry on

The latest version is Steam, valve moved all their stuff over to the steam client and (I think) deactivated the key auth servers in favour of it. http://www.steampowered.com

Install it, move your game over to it and use that to play HL/CS

I looked this up a while ago cos I was considering buying the HL:DM on Steam for the nostalgia.

Unless you have a few mates that want to jump into a server with ya I wouldn't bother - unfortunately the original HL:DM is so dead. Valve game stats indicate that there are next to no players online.
Check here for the updated numbers

You're best bet is to splash some cash on HL2:DM instead, at least there are players to connect with on pub servers.

Open steam, go to the Games tab, down the bottom on the left is a button "Activate a product on Steam..." follow the prompts and enter your HL cd key in.

It's so cool to see old games being dusted off and played. My son and I did the same thing with Serious Sam the First and Second encounters. He set up a game on the kids PC and we started playing co-op, next thing I know we ended up with about 6 additional people jumping on from across the net playing with us as well. Pretty cool.

I'll have to see about breaking out the old copy of HL next, maybe even some CS classic.

Don't think many people are still playing HLDM.

G'day Willy and all - HL:DM(1) still active online via STEAM as stated by others here. I came back to it for the same reason(s) you stated and enjoy catching up with old friends and fellow gamers in it too. Used to be two full-time servers in Australia but alas no more. Understandably due to low numbers versus effort versus costs. Closest dedicated servers are now two in NZ (http://www.little-nz.com/). Now and then you'll see a listenserver come online from Oz. I run a "dedicated" server from BNE but not always on as usually away travelling around for work. Will keep an eye out for you when on :) Hostname is "AUSNZ HLDM with m8s". Have a good one.
