Whether you love mac or hate them, this video is way cool.

Its showing how the machine cuts out the solid 1 piece body of the MBP

I think they actually reuse every scrap of aluminium not used in the final frame.

How the hell do you mass-produce something that takes that long to make?

Or are there just that few people buying Mac Book Pros?

With my recent interest in macbook pros (see a previous thread) I did some youtube'n and came across a fair few video reviews/issues.

One was a battery issue with swollen batteries, do they still have these issues? I think the battery is completely internal now and non removable? apparently apple said it was so they could fit a bigger battery but I think its so people couldn't test the battery bulge and just say hey gimme a new battery (they were free), call me paranoid.

Have any of you mac users on here had any battery troubles? I remember the first bunch of ipods having s*** batteries as well or have apple got their issues sorted?

The latest revision of macbooks is from june this year, so they are still quite new. So far Iv had no battery issues and don't expect too. If i do have issues then its covered by apple care for 3 years.

The battery is completly internal and non removable

There's a video on the Apple site about the batteries and why they aren't so easily removed. They have a completely different lay out to normal batteries and don't waste space with external casings and adapters so it can get a long battery life.

Was lucky and got in with the now-retired MacBook alu 13.3" model (late nov 2008). Never had a problem, easily removable battery, hdd and RAM.

And i'm sure it has absolutely nothing to do with making it harder to just go to the shops and buy a new battery and slotting it in when it inevitably dies before the end of the life of the laptop.

Actually, it doesn't have anything at all to do with that..
The lifespan of a battery is measured in recharges. One recharge is a complete charge and discharge of a battery’s energy. A recharge doesn’t necessarily occur every time you plug in your notebook; many partial charges can add up to a single full recharge. The typical battery delivers about 200 to 300 recharges before its capacity declines to approximately 80 percent. At that point the battery still works, but its performance is diminished. Thanks to the breakthroughs of advanced chemistry and Adaptive Charging, the battery in the 17-inch MacBook Pro can go through up to 1000 recharges before it reaches 80 percent of its original capacity — more than three times the lifespan of typical notebook batteries

How many recharge cycles do you get from your Dell?

Your mum!

Back on topic now. Vids were pretty cool. Though I guess they got a bit repetitive :) I liked when the engine was gyrating like crazy, that was cool.

The 2nd video in eds' link shows a different machine making the same thing, a bit faster, and in a more factory-like environment where they could have a whole room full of those. You just can't see what it's doing as easily because it's pouring a s*** load of this milky water on it all the time.

This new macbook is going to be quite a match for Ice T's hammer.

Yeah that's one other factor I like the sound of. I actually took another step today & went to look around the DSE power house just to check out how big the keyboard actually is and it's not as small as I first thought, the youtube videos are kind of deceptive.

Eds: Do you have any way to generate a blank screen of certain colours and then take a photo of it? I'd be interested to see what the screen looks like from typical sitting distance because on my current machine at typing distance half the screen is black and the other half is a bright grey colour from the absolute f*****ry method the backlight uses. I'm hoping the macbook doesn't suffer this affliction.

My screen is most notably s***house on totally black screens, white doesn't show up anything much. I'll try & take a pic of my screen but being capped means it'll take me forever to load an image hosting site.

Any chance of a meet up some time and I can get a look in real life? I tried to take a look at DSE but I didn't really want to waste the sales dudes time asking if I could test it by watching a movie then just walk off. It might be their job to oblige potential customers but doesn't mean I need to be a dick :)

edit: This is what my screen looks like with a totally black image, I just made a new pic in photoshop & filled it with black & hit full screen.

Ignore that bright red stuck pixel down there.

If you tilt the screen so the bottom part is black then the top part looks all weird and the colours shift off into some sort of twilight zone looking thing.

Take it into an Apple shop and they will replace it for free. The "non-removable batteries" are actually quite removable, they just don't have outer casing, hence why its not user-replaceable.

Whoop - the screen should be fine, take a trip to mac1 or robina apple store and they will let you play around with the laptop for as long as you want.
