I use my laptop at home as a pc with a hdmi monitor (TV) and was wondering if anyone know how to make it switch to hdmi output for sound when the cable is inserted. At the moment I have to manually change the default playback device in the sound controller.
Im running Win 7 32 cheers |

Rick click on the speaker in the sys tray, select play back devices, click on the HDMI and click set as default?

i have a feeling that the HDMI connection is plug and play. So when he turns his laptop on without the HDMI cable in, it defaults to the onboard sound. Then because a device is already selected, when he plugs the HDMI cable in, it doesnt automatically switch.
as far as a solution goes.. not sure :I |

HDMI is NOT hot plug btw. Devices can be damaged by plugging in whilst both ends are powered on.

Yes its hot plug, all the laptops I have used with HDMI will automatically switch the audio output when detected.

that is a fail dude. Whats a fail? Mine doesnt auto switch and its more than inconvenient having to switch it every time i take it away from the tv (twice a day at least). |
