How good are muppets. I never realised there were so many different types of muppets with different means of operation.

Fascinating explanation of how muppets are made and operated: http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/muppet.htm

Some perspective on what this looks like:

Some discussion about muppets with Jim Henson and Frank Oz

There are whole muppet docos on youtube I haven't even watched yet.

I reckon I'm gonna make a muppet, even if it turns out dodge it will be fun.

Anyone got any favourite muppet skits?

By virtue of being created by Jim Henson's company could they still be called muppets?

Henson's company didn't make sesame street, he just reluctantly contracted for it. He already had a show earlier with some of the characters, and he called them muppets regardless of what kind of production they were involved in.

I saw a play called "Avenue Q" with muppet/puppet characters in it, it was weird because the controllers and voice actors just carried the puppets around on stage. I was never sure who to look at, the puppet's body/face or the voice actors body/face. Not bad but.

I have it on VHS too. I have looked at it more than once wondering whether or not to watch it. Haven't seen it since I was 7yo or so. I have the same problem with The Labyrinth - dunno if watching it again will destroy it for me. I did, however, re-watch Never Ending Story - and it still brought tears to my eyes when Atreyu died *cry*

I watched Labyrinth for the first time ever recently and I loved it. It has that same style a lot of effects stuff from the 80s had.

The Labyrinth is OK to re-watch, still just as good.

The Dark Crystal, I re-watched that and it was good, just not quite as good as I remember it.

Artax was the horse, but I'm willing to forgive you since that is one of my favourite movies

i've rewatched all 3 and they are just as epic as I remember. It's sad that today if they were remade (god forbid) they would just use CG for everything and it wouldn't have anywhere near the feel of the originals. I still don't really get how the s*** they managed to get Buto from the labyrinth to move. He is such a huge, and no doubt heavy, creature.

EDIT - Are there any other movies like that too? I only know of the 3

Last time I watched The Labyrinth, it was while doing this.

Needless to say, a good time was had by all. :)
