It's an interesting and logical concept but surely the internet isn't really ready for private groups for torrents? You would need really broad groups to have groups large enough to seed properly.

It's definitely a positive movement forward for torrents though, an alternative image away from piracy and hugging the Creative Commons license which is certainly one place for general wide-spread torrent use (other than a monetarised business model which AFAIK has not yet been realised).

That's the first thing I think of too when I see 'secure' these days.

Although, ultimately trackers still won't be secured, so the torrent sharing can be as secure as you like - you're still open to scrutiny by interested parties monitoring the trackers.

I had to stop going to isohunt because I kept getting spyware. Up until that, it was my fave torrent site.

I read something once that leads me to think this already happens in other ways :/

this doesn't really seem that crazy.. some security-conscious corps will surely play around with the idea

I pretty much only use a private tracker for downloading "linux isos". The one I'm with is pretty small (only 25000-30000 users) and its invite only. That said I get full speed on pretty much everything I download, maxes out my 8mbit on nearly every torrent.

I don't see this working. If you want a torrent you have to f*** around and try to get into the group. Why can't a cop do the same thing?
