Seems like the 'trick' would be the same one as this and various others: So I'm looking forward to the reveal. |

Derren Brown is a freak, yeah he is a cheat but a bloddy smart one, and has some serious skills with making people do what he wants.
Good video of him talking with Richard Dawkins: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xswt8B8-UTM&feature=PlayList&p=55A986E56B106611&index=0&playnext=1 |

Let's discuss this Brick Wall Graffiti Prediction by David Copperfield.
OK I guess the girl he gets to go up and draw the tiger could easily be a plant since he went down and picked her. The tiger drawing on the paper isn't *exactly* the same so it's a redraw not some sort of transfer, she could have learned how to draw the same tiger and acting all innocent and stupid while doing it. The other people have had me stumped for years - either they practiced those throws real good, or there is just a s***load of plants occupying that whole area, the first one to catch the brick says tiger, the next one says DG, etc... any one of them would have been ready to say that. Could that be it? |

I watched it 3 times lolz.
I dont think there was anything tricky with the cameras. I did notice that he never showed us the balls away from their 'stand/holder" But they did move. Why not just write the numbers down in an envelope ? haha im gonna think about it. ya know... i got the feeling when that chick sprayed the tiger that the spray wasnt coming from her direction. Like it was being sprayed from behind. or her spray was like clear liquid that when it came into contact with the surface of the wall it changed to a pretreated Drawing making it come alive. last edited by FaceMan at 21:07:53 10/Sep/09 |

Copperfield trick: The girl and brick catchers are all plants. Girl - as thermite says, she's part of the show. First row catch guy - This one is fairly predicable as the distance is easy to practise. Copperfield actually sets her up to ensure that her back is directly in front of the plant and she's not on any kind of unusual angle. Copperfield specifies that the catcher must be male, so only males in this area need be in on the act. Second catch guy - here, the brick is not actually thrown at all - remember, the audience is in the dark and the 'bricks' are Nerf rubber (no noise on landing and easily scrunched into your hand). First row guy simply mimes the throw. As the 'throw' is made most people will be looking backwards trying to spot where the brick lands. Anyone looking intently at the thrower, however, will still likely to miss the misdirection because torches pointed at eye-level from within the audience provide more than enough distraction (this is where the illusion is most easily revealed - after all, who brings large torches to a show like this to conveniently point at people from within the crowd?). Second catcher simply reveals the brick he already has and mimes a bit of a fumble to simulate the catch. Third catch guy - essentially same trick as above, but the catch brick is thrown from elsewhere in the auditorium so it's aimed pretty well (not well enough, however, as the guy still needs to scramble behind him to make sure he ends up with it). Note, the other two people in the row whose names are used do not need to be plants at all, someone (probably the third catch guy sitting beside them) simply needs to strike up a quick conversation with them as people are shuffling into the auditorium, or at intermission, and pass that on to Copperfield. |

it is simplier than that. when he steps up to get the knife from the top of the rock wall he takes a piece of paper an assistant has created from behind the rock wall. that paper folded up is now behind the envelope. he then slips it out from behind the envelope instead of taking the paper from inside the envelope. notice how carefully and quickly he takes the paper out from inside (really behind) the envelope. |

That might be the secret to this one ara:
Putting the box on the chair was sus. So was the way Copperfield held the envelope as he reached for the knife. Hmmm... last edited by thermite at 13:30:31 11/Sep/09 |

The wall was already painted.
He never tested the paint cans on any other surface and i noticed no spray paint went on the girl. The paint was just some liquid that activated the wall paintings making them appear to be spraypainted. That would suggest that the Lotto draw is faked. Like the wall, the Draw had already occurred. At least the draw that we saw as part of the trick. Was the Race faked ? Staged for the show ? Isnt there a Delay for Live TV ? he had no delay so the draw Live was already old ? Its cool to see the trick done 3 different ways. |

haha, the way your mind works. The wall was already painted. He never tested the paint cans on any other surface and i noticed no spray paint went on the girl. The paint was just some liquid that activated the wall paintings making them appear to be spraypainted. how does this help predict the answers that the people yell out? oh spray paint is faked and the cans remove some kind of fake paint on the wall revealing already known answers but how are those answers already known? your suggestion makes no sense. |

Chris Angle pissed me off when he claimed that Houdini made his escapes out to look dangerous but they really weren't when his really are. His f***head family are bad actors when his uses them to put on some stupid act to talk him out of his stunts because they fear for his safety. The guy is a tool.

Creepy, I'm in the UK atm, and the one time I watch tv in the last 2 months it's this (live and very cool) Derren Brown trick (plus some cool show of his after), and now you lot are all talking about it. I'd never heard of him before, but from the little I saw, it seems he is manipulating people to do what he wants? I like, wish I could do it! |

I think he setup the whole group of people to make them believe they actually had some 'super powers' so they would have genuine reactions and genuinely believe they did it. A quick google on Darren Brown shows that this is what he's good at - making people believe what he wants them to.
Then he just pulled the camera trick stunt as shown in the other vid. |

Why didn't he do the obvious thing, and buy a ticket with the predicted numbers. I would believe him then.
Also the people in his 'explanation' video are obviously actors or idiots. A 2nd grader could realise that a lotto draw is completely independent from 24 morons using 'willpower' to predict numbers. |

and his whole thing about the lottery agency is BS! Sure the BBC may have the right to 'announce' what the official numbers are, but nothing wrong with him going, 'ok guys im hoping to win lottery tonight, i've picked these numbers.....' he isnt announcing anything, he's sharing his pick and then by "coincidence" it happens to be correct, but doesnt mean he's the one announcing it, his prediction doesnt mean anything till the BBC release the actual results. |

Its obvious from watching the group of people form when they started revealing the numbers. If they had known what numbers were going to come up they would of cheered as each number came out and got closing to the end. They only cheered at the end when he revealed the numbers. These people were lead to believe they had a hand in coming up with the numbers but they never knew what the numbers were until he turned them around.

in the guessing experiment he did if you have 12 out of the 24 people as confederates you can predict 4 out of 6 balls 80% of the time or if you only want to predict 3 balls at 80% you only need 8 confederates. i suspect this is what he did because 2 of the balls that failed to be guessed were far away from the mean assuming people are guessing randomly. also, if you can push people towards picking certain numbers then you need less confederates or if you repeat the experiment you can decrease the number of confederates required. with 10 attempts and 5 confederates you can predict 3 or more 97% of the time. a cooler way of doing it is adding up all the numbers mod 49 and then you only need 1 confederate but it is a bit harder to come up with an explanation for that mathematical operation and it is a lot more suspicious to people who know why you would choose such an operator. or if you are dodgy like him you can let people choose negative numbers or numbers > 49 then you only need 1 confederate. guy in the 8th row is not suspect at all. lol. http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/6688/randoma.th.jpg http://imageshack.us/img/butansn.png last edited by hast at 22:10:12 14/Sep/09 |
