As the title says anyone know of any relatively easy and enjoyable subjects over summer that I could do? I need to pickup another subject to finish my (science) degree.

Already doing PSYC1030 this semester.

Intro management & intro marketing were pretty damn easy back in 2003 (goddamn) when i needed 3 more credits for my b.inf tech.

It's not a music class so much as it is a history class. My essay at the end was about drugs in music.

Don't pick the 'Health & Fitness through Dieting & Exercise' one they f***en make you run laps in tutorials and then use these forceps to measure how fat you are. f***en hell.

f*** intro to management or marketing, unless you want to shoot yourself in the head for BOREDOM.

There are two of those music classes iirc that heaps of people did, elvis to madonna, and some other one that I don't remember the name of. Never did them myself cause I was doing actual music subjects.

Psyc1020 is so much better than psyc1030 (imo) - though I guess you're doing what you're doing.

All that being said, I don't actually have anything useful to contribute to this thread. Give me a list of available summer subjects and I'd be happy to tell you which NOT to do!

i know they usually offer econ1020 - intro macroeconomics over summer semesters. though if it's taught by bruce littleboy don't bother, also understandably not everyone's cup of tea :D

Have you done second year anatomy? BIOM2012 I think. It's not easy, but it's over summer. There's summer research projects too. Some philosophy ones are around aswell. Not much help, but it's all I remember from when I looked into it a couple of years ago.

Agree with Sparrow - intro management/marketing are 'easy' because all you have to do is read and memorise stuff.. but they are really boring.

Personally it is easier for me to enjoy/get better marks in subjects that are difficult but interesting than 'easy' subjects where you just have to remember monotonous things. The dull subjects often have equally dull lecturers (which of course doesn't help).

And to follow up with what taggs said, ECON1010 (Microeconomics) and ECON1020 (Macroeconomics) are fairly interesting and not overly difficult. Bruce Littleboy isn't that bad.....

I did intro to sociology over one summer at UQ.

It was great - a total bludge. In the last lecture we got to watch Aphex Twin videos.

I think the final was entirely multi-guess.

sparrow: I'm only doing PSYC1030 because I heard it was interesting/easy. I'll checkout 1020.

Here is a list of all the summer courses.

Jayebee: Haven't done anatomy and I don't think I will. Memorising that much data is going to be painful and not enjoyable in my opinion. Already done summer research project. I know there's intro into philosophy but leaving that as a last option.

How long ago did you do intro into sociology mastablasta?

Holy s*** that is a terrible list of subjects to choose from over summer. Looks like macro econ is a goer or PLNT3012 might be more up your alley.

I should really mention my degree: bachelor of science majoring in micro.

Yeah that list looks crap... I'd say PSYC1030 is the winner. It's a typical psych 90% cutoff for a 7, 80% for a 6 sort of course, pretty interesting though. I did bugger all work and wound up with a 6.

I did BSc (Biomedical Science). Don't suppose you're doing med next year?

I personally think an intro to French or some other language would be a fun and entertaining way to get credit. Unless you needed a really good grade.

Jayebee - nah med isn't my thing. I've got a few friends that are going into med. Sadly it's the number one question bach of science 3rd years get asked. I just want to be a simple researcher.

r_mazing - if weed science was really about weed I might have done it.

The system is pretty f***ed if you can do a Music subject to finish off a Science degree.

GG edumication.

most degrees has electives like that, that you have to do from another course..

i could do fashion design subjects in my engineering degree if i so chose

It seems as though you can do any course and get credit towards your degree? Never been to uni so dont know how it works, but wouldnt you have a pretty good idea about what subjects to do based on the degree you are going to get?

i could do fashion design subjects in my engineering degree if i so chose

wtf, how is that possible?

I've done both Psyc1030 (as part of my degree) and Elvis to Madonna as an elective. I'd definately go with Elvis to Madonna, all we did was go into the music hall and the guy would play music. He'd talk about bands, obviously starting with Elvis, and going through to Madonna. I always wanted to do the two follow up ones, which was like madonna to now, and a Heavy Metal one.

afaik a degree has elective and core requirements. i remember when i was in first year, the load of law subjects was very light so i could choose anything else to make up the credit point load for those semesters.

i ended up doing one history subject, one government subject and one sociology subject - all really retardedly easy introduction subjects (well easy for law students anyways :p). i have to say the government one was the best fun - introduction to political ideology. i used to love annoying the s*** out of all the hippies. the sociology one was good too because of all the hot babes.

well for mine there is 4 subjects i have to do from another course called 'second major/minor units' which is anything outside of engineering..

so like greazy is doing, they try to find fun and easy subjects so they can get some easy 7's which helps bump up their GPA (silly GPA people)

i personally don't have to do these units as i get credit for them from what i've done at tafe.

For Surveying we had 2-3 Electives a year.

For example, 2nd year we had 2 electives. We had a choice between;
*Elective 1 (Survey Computations) and
*Elective 2 (Cadastral Law)

Pick any 2.

yes we have electives aswell called 'applications minor selective'

we have to do 2 of them

Yeah my science degree was a bit weird like that. I only needed 2 out of 3 years to have science subjects. Elvis to Madonna was good, but I hate history, so thought the Psyc ones were better. All time favourite wank subject was 'Meditation and the Souls Journey'. We were marked on how well we meditated haha.

yeah that list isn't too great :(

i'll be doing FINM3402 over this summer semester as long as they get the min enrollment requirements (fingers crossed).

edit: also Littleboy is soooo that bad :D

That isn't the main reason, every subject I have done has been a science one apart from PSYC1030 which I am doing now and the next elective I'll be choosing. I thought I might do something easy to finish off my degree (instead of doing anatomy).

I have no idea why they force you to do X amount of units when the core subjects only make up a tiny amount of the overall units.

They teach that at a madrasa school (a school school!).

Thanks I'll be doing it on parasites :D. Also "Meditation & Soul Journeys" is still available but not over summer.

Because then they can claim that it's a 3(!) year degree instead of a 2 year certificate.
