Saw this at the cinema last night.

Anyone else seen it?

I absolutely loved it, definitely the best movie I have seen for quite a while. Most of the audience clapped at the end, which I haven't seen happen in a regular screening before.

There were so many clever and subtle things, the cinematography was amazing, and the sets were authentic.

Its a Tarantino film so its obviously not going to be for everyone, but anyone who has liked any of his other films should love this.

A++ would watch again.

Plenty of action that wasn't in the trailer.

But about half the movie subtitled (as some of it is french/german).

No offence to your friend but if that is what he said. He has absolutely no taste and no appreciation for films.

I just saw this today. What a great movie. One of tarantino's best. The plot, actors, sets and costumes are all awesome. I have seen my fair share of movies based on nazi's and WW2 and this was the best I have ever seen.

p.s. Mr Hardware - tell your friend that "jibber jabber" he spoke of is called a story. Perhaps he missed this.

Good Movie.

Only flaw is that its a bit too long but all Tarantino movies are.

The dude who played Col Hans Landa should get an oscar.

Saw this last night, this movie is a goddamn masterpiece! It's very typicaly Tarantino - you can tell he directed it, sure, and it has all the normal hints that it's one of his movies (lonnng scenes that just go on and on to the point you're starting to think "wtf is the point of this?", credits in a very old style, subtitles with words/sentences mixed in in the same language as they were speaking in the first place so it's not even translated)...

Yes, Christoph Waltz is brilliant. So is Brad Pitt, I'd even go as far as to say he was better than his role in Snatch. Mélanie Laurent > Diane Kruger.

9.5/10 from me (keeping in mind I have TDK 8/10) - you really should go see this. But not if you're queasy.

haven't seen it but a mate of mine told me that all the action is in the trailer and the rest of the movie is just 2 hours of jibber-jabber confirm/deny?

no no, I'd agree with this. I just wouldn't call it pointless or that it's a bad thing. It's normal in a Tarantino film, like I said. His movies are all about dialogue.

Your friend sucks dicks. Big fat black ones.

(lonnng scenes that just go on and on to the point you're starting to think "wtf is the point of this?",

Didn't get that impression at all.

this movie is a goddamn masterpiece!

Tripple Confirmed!

Mélanie Laurent > Diane Kruger.

Confrmed again!

This my friends is the best movie I've seen all year, I challenge any other film to beat it (I haven't seen D9 yet, but it doesn't look like it'll be my thang).

Everything about this movie is fantastic, authentic.

Great movie! As some have said, it was long and there *were* long scenes, but no matter how little happens in them they're still so visually stunning and even the sound is great. Never felt bored for a second and loved every minute of it.

Nah I agree, Chermside is a ripoff and I don't usually go there. Usually go to Carindale/Cineplex (have one of those $6 ticket cards for Carindale).

Anyway, they have some promotion on where you can use 50 cinebuzz points to see a movie (usually need 100... 1 movie = 10 points). So saw it in "vmax" for $0 ($16 or something outrageous normally).

Great movie! As some have said, it was long and there *were* long scenes,

I think this is part of what makes Tarantino such a great director, he hasn't lost the ability to create suspense
not many movies do that these days, its all action/fast paced/squeeze as much plot in as possible

Some people like the long scenes, I know I do. I'm usually engrossed in them because of the dialogue, attention to detail, and the way they're filmed. Same goes for any movie/director as long as it's decent because I don't require fast-paced things happening all the time to get entertainment from something. Kevin Smith is another great example of providing long scenes with awesome dialogue and not much else happening.

Having almost finished Inglourious Basterds I have to say that it is one of the most enjoyable films that I have seen this year and I rate it in my top 4 for 2009 overall.

This thread is tempting me to drag out my Jackie Brown DVD and check if it is better than I remember - but I feel I should watch Basterds again before then just to be sure.

The movie was pretty good imo

Tarantino wank chat scenes are ok now and then, but at a couple of points (restaurant with jew girl/jew hunter, cinema foyer with jew hunter, pretty much anything with jew hunter) was kinda exhausting and annoying and i just wanted it to be over

ending seemed dumb too

wish tarantino would just f*** off sometimes

Ive heard the opinion floating around that - a movie is only as good as it's main villan.

If that's the case then Inglourious Basterds succeds with all kinds of awesomeness due to the performance of Christophe Waltz (The Jew Hunter).

The tenseness is rivaled only by the scene where they're in the restaurant eating the strudel where he orders the glass of milk and you're left thinking "Hah! Is he onto her or is he not?!"

Awesome movie. The dialog was long but never boring. Honestly, if you people don't like drawn out dialog scenes why go see a Tarantino flick?

I saw this about a week ago and I thought it was a little meh.

Not bad but I wouldn't rush back to see it again.

And some of the gory scenes just seemed to be in there for the shock factor rather than adding anything of value to the movie.

Oh and the lack of nazi security at the film screening was a bit of a joke, wasn't it?

Hmmm maybe... buut surely when there a important dudes inside you'd have some bad dudes outside. The cinema guy just wonders around locking doors and the Basterds do pretty much the same.

Now you mention the Jew hunter, I thought he did a great job (the actor).

You mean the thing that the whole movie was about? The thing that the trailer showed the whole movie being of? The Basterds running amok f***ing up Nazis? The actual TITLE of the movie and the things that all the starts in the movie were and they got about 10% of screen time?

Yeh I noticed that too

I just saw this, great movie, loved the jew hunter's dialogue particularly, he could say so much with so little; "..a glass of milk."

And this was a good thread to top it off with, apart from all the noobs that didn't get the film.

I didn't think it was so great. Started off strong, and the basement scene was one of the best sequences tarantino has ever put together, but the third act dragged along much too long, it ended ridiculously, there was abrupt closure, and despite the fact I know Tarantino has a thing for dialogue, i would have much preferred more action - he's proven more than capable of directing action and frenetic chaos, and this seemed like a solid platform for that.

Tarantino really is overrated. I loved the Bills, but I don't think Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs are that good. Deathproof was cool, but only for that film's end sequence.

just goes to show how different some people's tastes in movies are because i thought exactly the opposite... pulp fiction & reservoir dogs are classics... the killbills were like the hollywood execs said 'ok quentin you can do your s***ty tribute to asian kung-fu movies' & he over-indulged himself. they were aweful. IMO!

if you just wanted to see yanks killing nazis ad nauseam go watch some old 'combat!' series from the 60's ... you can watch vic morrow machinegun nazis till your eyes bleed.

it's quite humourous that in inglourious basterds the nazi's were sterio-typically portrayed as evil because they just wanted to see a movie where a nazi gunned down yankees :D hah pwned.

This was the downfall of the movie for me, I think it's just a result of misrepresentation and wrong expectations.

Because of all that, I went in expecting something else and as a result wasn't letting myself get invested in much of what I thought were just side-plots - auxiliary to the actual movie that I thought was about a dirty dozen crew that went around f***ing up nazis.

So as good as the dialogue may well have been, I found myself just being completely bored whenever the Frenchie Jew girl was prattling on and just wanting to fast forward. Just totally lost interest and like Twisted only tuned back in when stuff was actually happening.

I can definitely see what some people think was good about the film, but yeah I think my experience was spoiled by misrepresentation.

This. Kill Bill really doesn't have any points to it, I can't see why he decided it had enough to make 3 full features length films out of it... I enjoyed Inglourious Basterds though, I must say, for me Pulp fiction still has slight edge over it. There are just so many classic lines from Pulp Fiction :)

Never saw Deathproof but Reservoir Dogs was arrogant and Kill Bill 1 & 2 whilst entertaining really had no passion in them.
