I hate spiders. I think I would be scared to death if I saw anything like that in my house. Used to s*** me whenever there'd be a spider and dad would just take it outside onto the verandah instead of killing the bastard

Im terrified of spiders, its my one real fear. If I saw that, I would smash through windows, doors, walls, whatever, to get away. and I would not be returning too the house until I pumped it with so much f***ing poison nothing, including myself , could not live there.......actually no, just burn it.

I love having big spiders in the house.
So long as it doesn't have poison, why the hell not. |

i don't really have a problem with spiders... no more so than any poisonous insect. huntsmen like those it the pic wouldn't bother me at all. the only time spiders really s*** me is when big web building golden orbs build thier webs across my driveway or walkways.
a few years back i rode my suzuki dr600 around the back of my parents place & went through a huge web with my visor up. the huge spikey orb spider landed right on my face n proceeded to try n burrow in between my cheek & the helmet. it was a huge mental effort to put the bike on it's sidestand n remove my helmet calmly as this hairy spider the size of my fist tries to wrap my face in web. that was a really icky feeling... orb spiders have a really hard carapace n thier legs are spikey... still it didn't bite me! :D |

I also generally try to get them outside rather than killing them. I'm not sure what I'd do in that case though, because I'd certainly not want all of them staying inside, though I don't know how the hell one would evict all of them.

Is that a Huntsman? We've got a s*** load of them in an old shed but I've never seen any sort of web like that and their egg sacks are roundish.
I hate those spiders that build those huge webs at night over big open areas. Walking along a path you know there was no spider or web on earlier and all of a sudden you pull up short with a big solid looking spider about 3 inches from your eye ball. Anything in the house that isn't human dies, that's my rule. |

I like those spiders that have their babies crawl all over them.
Having spider webs on your ceiling corners really cuts down on bugs in summer. |

Meh, wouldn't bother me really, I would probley do what that dude did and sat there and took pictures of them, then make a thread about it on the interwebs and how they grow and post awesome recipes.
That said, spiders are awesome. Mate up the road has a few spiders, scorpions and a bearded dragon, they don't bother me at all. |

Just remembered another story, woke up in the middle of the night one night, and turned my light on and saw a huge huntsman on my wall, thought "hey that's cool", took a picture of it and went back to sleep :)
Looking for the picture now |

There was a fun thread on SA about spiders in the last week, some pom carrying on about this little house spider in his room, Australians replied with their spider photos and won the thread...
I'm with those who will let huntsmen and wolfspiders alone but hate golden orbs. Face level webs and being hideously ugly will get you stomped. Huntsmen are fun. I really don't like people who kill any and every spider on sight, especially if they use poison instead of being nice and killing them fast. Spray is for invincible creatures like flies, bees and roomfuls of mozzies. Interesting fact; a lot of spiders are so well adapted to indoors life that they will die if put out in the garden. This is a proper spider worthy of death by fire: http://www.cairns.com.au/images/uploadedfiles/editorial/pictures/2008/10/23/birdy2usu.jpg Story here. |

I hate webs with a passion. It's not the web for me it's the thought of "where is the spider that made this s***?". I walked through a web on sunday in the back yard, looked around for a spider, couldn't see it so brushed the web off me & went on with my business. Had the spider itself been on me, THEN I probably would have applied the "run and scream like a girl" technique. |

I hate webs with a passion. +1 for this. I am totally fine with spiders in general, grew up with a f***ton of huntsmen in the house, and I hate mozzies waaay more than spiders. However, if i run into a spiderweb, I s*** bricks. I have long hair, and seriously freak out when I get web in my hair - images of spiders setting up nests and eggs etc is just not cool. (Even just thinking about it is making my skin crawl!) |

yeah i don't really think about them making nests as much as i do about getting f***in bitten
f***in redlands/victoria point area has a f***ing s***load of redbacks i went down to an off maintenance inspection for a job we did down there which happens 1 year after it's finshed being built and the amount of redbacks in the gully pits in the roads was f***ing creepy they are one spider that creeps me out pretty hardcore, just that reputation i think |

Well f***, I think I'd leave the house and not return until I had a Hazmat and a f***load of chrome spray paint + bug spray for that bastard.
The chrome paint cause: a) it sticks to their skin and once it dries up, they can't fkn move... b) it poisons them (plus i think it stops them breathing?) c) chrome spiders are cool. ... Paveway - redbacks don't -usually- cause too much problem for adult humans, unless you're pretty unhealthy. They'll make you quite sick but unlikely to kill you. But THAT thing, would eat your face, it biting you would hurt enough for it to be destroyed imo, despite its poisonous (or lack of) properties The bug spray, just to be doubly sure... Then I'd probably shoot the f*** out of it with a .308, stuff the hole in the wall it leaves! last edited by Mephz at 20:45:10 18/Aug/09 |
