I`m thinking about coming back to Australia because a family member is really sick. I was looking at kooky Australian mobile plans and vodaphone has a plan that says: "$69 a month inc 1GB of data with iphone" then it says "200MB of internet is +$9.95" So what is "data"? Isn`t that internet? In Japan you just pay about $50 a month and get unlimited internet on iphone. What is the "1GB data" included with the vodaphone plan if it isn`t internet? Thanks in advance. |

You mean at this link?
http://store.vodafone.com.au/plan-69-iphone-cap.aspx?selId=92 I think that's a internet-pack that is normally an option for regular phones/contracts, but they forgot to remove the option for the iPhone on that particular webpage - as it's shouldn't apply (you get 1GB to use as you please on the iPhone or tethered to a computer at no extra charge, etc). I'm on that particular plan and I can assure you I don't pay any extra :) last edited by parabol at 23:23:42 17/Aug/09 |

You mean at this link? oh thanks, that makes more sense. So hows the coverage in Australia? Say I`m in a city on the bus and I want to pull up gmail or ebay will that be easy to do over the 3G network or do I need a special WiFi network in the area? Or is 3G internet capable but WiFi is just faster? I have no idea about Australian networks, I`ve been gone for 4 years and I used to rock a monochrome nokia there. |

I regularly browse the web on my mobile without issue all over Brisbane and Sydney (CBD, suburbs, in moving vehicles etc) and have never had a problem. It isn't always as fast as I'd like, but it's acceptable.

I think I might get that vodaphone plan if I go back, it doesn`t look too bad and I was starting to panic after seeing the prices of stand alone phones on ebay.com.au. |

Help him or f*** off you twit
Basically I think Australian carriers go in this order Telstra Optus Vodafone Thats from most expensive and most coverage to least. Vodafone have visual voicemail which is sick, and I don't know why other carriers don't use it. Optus don't allow conference calling, which is gay. Telstra abuse your anus for data charges. I would just buy one outright if I had my time again, save getting stiched up by a certain carrier. |

I'm on Telstra and really the only good thing about it is the network. Solid as a rock. I wish I had more than 300MB but can't afford any more. And I only lately have been getting close.

Hahah, after seeing the amount of optus threads on whirlpool, there is no f***ing way I would ever go them ever again. Despite Vodafone and Optus sharing their data networks, Optus is apparently an absolute dog, Vodaphone is pretty good, 3 is cheap and okay. Im still thinking of moving to vodafone.
