Topic: AMD phenom bus drop in am2

i spent a few days on the net trying to find an answer and all i got was cpu reviews, so i was wondering if someone here could help.

i have an am2 socket board and a x2 4800+, yes i am an amd fan, but the problem is i am looking at moving to an x4 but in an am2 board drops the 5100mhz bus to 2000mhz

as i don't want/feel like replacing my m/board yet is there any performance degradation or should i just wait of win7 to be released and get am3 board and a x4 then

please help if possible

Of course there will be a performance decrease... you are essentially more than halving the bus speed...

How about just download the Win7 RC that runs till June 2010 and see how that goes on your current hardware?

You've got 3 days before they stop handing out RC keys.

I have tried on numerous occasions to download Win7 and it never works :(

Last time I got to the step of:

"We have sent an email to your inbox, click on link in email to start download" - I never got the email (hotmail account).

This is the latest of many problems trying to get it. This s from the MS website.

I haven't downloaded it yet, I just checked my hotmail then and still no magical email.

I'm interested to get it as I'm going to put in a bigger HD in my laptop so a fresh install might be nice, rather than putting Vista back on.

Either that or my copy of XP home.

Nothing really wrong with Vista, just seems 'laggy' all the time.

cheers for reply, yeah confirmed my suspicions

btw i have been checking out a win7 RC,dual-boot with Vista, and was planning on using it for an upgrade, but i have heard that games are a bit problematic on 7, haven't had anything to test with

anyways, anybody know where to get a good priced am3 board and x4 cpu?

Well I've downloaded it and followed the instructions to make the disc but it appears to be a WinZip file on the disc?

WinZip File (.iso)

Is what it says under properties, is this right or have I fooked it?

Maybe PC user with the install disc is a winnar.

You're not meant to burn the iso file to the disc, you're meant to use software that will take whatever files are in the iso and burn them to the disc.

Your software should have a "burn iso" option. If it doesn't, grab CDBurnerXP - it's free.

Ok thanks, I figured I did tha bit wrong.

I only have Nero light and I couldn't see that sort of option.

I'll give CDBurnerXP a whirl.

Better yet, get ImgBurn.
Also, ditch WinZip for 7-Zip.

Sweet, CDBurnerXP sorted me out. The disc looks good to go.

I only have Winzip on there for a audio file I downloaded a few months back. I'll give the other one a go instead.

Cheers
