MELBOURNE Storm rugby league player Greg Inglis has been arrested over an alleged assault of his girlfriend.
Inglis was arrested at his western suburbs home today and questioned by police over an attack on his partner, which left her with a black eye.

Apparantly he got into a brawl last year after someone insulted his partner Sally Robinson.

It'd be good to compare the baserate of these incidents in league to the general population. Even if it's the same though, these guys should realise they're being watched by a lot more people than the average Joe.

Pretty surprised it was GI too. He has definitely always seemed like more of a moral sort of person than most league players.

Nah the police can press charges for assault - it's a criminal case.

So is that's different to the chick on the radio that said she got raped but then instructed that she didn't want police to pursue the matter? The police now can't do anything.

Well if the victim has indicated they don't want to pursue it, ie give detailed statements, not show up to court etc etc and there are no other witnesses then the police have no choice but to drop it.

That's why this is interesting because it says police arrived at his home to arrest him, so obviously they didn't see it happen. Either the girl or her mother or someone has reported it to them.

Disciplining his partner is like the offside Rule.

Ah, that's not a verdict. The s*** article just says he intends to plead not guilty. I read the lawyer's talk as posturing at this stage. Does not necessarily have any bearing on the case whatsoever. If the police made comments then they would be meaningful - but they won't while the case is still potentially going to go to court because it could jeopardise the case.

Greg Birds GF also changed her story.
Sorry hes guilty.
The police dont need her statement to charge him.
They would have enough forensic evidence.

thermite, post above yours... He got 16 months which is now on appeal, set to be heard November. He has to serve at least 8 months jail time.

You are not allowed to consent to physical harm in Australia. You can consent to sex. So if someone says "I asked him to hurt me physically" or "It's OK if he hits me" He still gets charged. If you say "I asked him to have sex" then no crime.
