I'm a LITTLE bit older than the average BUT still love my games. I've been playing mostly Xbox360 but just can't get as used to it as P.C so...... I've got a reasonable budget, NOT MAD, what should I look for? Also I like good sound what card and speekers would you guys recommend.
Thanks heaps, its appreciated.
P.S is MSY the store to go to as opposed to Universal PC warehouse mitcham?

How does get...

ooo burn

yeah msy is pretty good, but they dont have a speaker range - i got mine from pcshopper.com.au

i recommend these : ALTEC LANSING FX4021 SFX Technology 2.1 System iPod / MP3 Player Jack Headphone Jack

a good mid range set with the only annoying bit - the physical volume control wheel is a bit annoying

Define reasonable budget. $1500? $2500? There are people who spend like $7000 on computer bits so your idea of "reasonable budget" might be totally different to ours.

Do you want top of the line, brand new technology or last generation stuff?

What games are you in to?

Will you ever want to overclock it?

Do you have any existing parts (keyboard? monitor? hard drives from another pc)?

Stay away from logitech z5500 speakers. I think someone on here has the same problem with them as I do, they blow fuses like $2 hookers blow co..... well you get the idea.

hahaha, that was funny as - thread wins on account of the complete newbie telling doob where to go :D

Anyway, I've been using a Core i7 920 since earlier this year - usually when I get a new system it feels faster than the old system it's replacing, but this time it's just so far ahead of the performance increase jump I've been used to I can't complain at all. Given that I don't play games (though played WoW for about 2 weeks after getting it, then got bored of it again, as you do), a 9600GT is massively overkill for what I do (though I've been doing some CUDA dev, so I'm sure I could make use of a 295).

However, if I had to do it all again I'd probably just get the same system as a Dell or HP - yeah, I'd pay maybe $100 more, but my time (to build it etc) is worth more than the dicking around to go buy parts, build it up, deal with any warranty issues etc.

Ultimately though, as said, it's going to depend on both your budget and what you want to do with it.

just got the logi g35 7.1's myself off ebay. I missed out on an auction where I bid $110 from $64 at 11pm. There were 5 snipers wanted the same headset and the highest bastard sniper was $125. I found a "Buy it Now" for $180 'cos I didn't want to wait for the next auction 3 days away which closed for $160.

Loving the G35 - f***ing awesome playing COD4

lol those headphones look a bit bad. USB only? 7.1 headphones? Sure thing.

www.headphones.com.au and get something decent.

As for the new pc question - How does give us an actual $ figure sound? Otherwise just go into MSY and go "hey I have xxxx dollars, give me the best gaming I can have for that".

I've had mine for 3+ years and never had a problem. In fact I'd say they are still the best 5.1 PC speaker kit on the market and the reason your set sucks is simply because you suck and aren't allowed to have anything nice.

Your mum sucks and she's pretty nice and I have her. In fact I had her not 5 minutes ago.

Mine are fine as long as the power stays on but for some reason if the power goes out, I unplug them or turn them off in any way shape or form, when I turn the power back on there's a 70% chance the fuse in it will blow. I reckon the fuse is just too weak & would probably benefit from a higher amperage fuse for that initial current draw when they're powered on. That's at the wall, I can power then on & off until the cows come home if I just use the soft power button on the remote volume bit but that doesn't help me if there's a power outage or I need to shuffle the power cables around.

Next time it happens I'm going to shove a f***ing nail in the fuse holder.

I have the new Z-5500's, they're ~$400 from MSY.

Kick ass, don't listen to the haters.

Or he could use the power switch on the back of the sub.

Those logitech 7.1 g35's look interesting. How do they work? Since they run over USB and not into your sound card i'm assuming it has some sort of built in sound driver?

I think those G35's look really good. The selling points always make me lol though (as a structural engineer that does a lot of vibration problems). Speaker/headphone manufacturers just come up with their own new metrics to make it somehow different from the rest.

Yeah built in. A few headsets do it. Doesn't really appeal to me, unless you still use onboard sound?

That switch causes the fuse to blow as well.

But surely if it was something in the speaker system causing it, the fuse would blow every time you switch it on.

How do GeForce GTX2xx fare against ATI HD48xx's? I'm a bit behind on the video chipsets but I know ATI cards are insanely cheap compared to NVIDIA.

< $200? I wouldn't mind a house of my own, but I can't afford more than that.

i am gunna be in the market for some new pc speakers soonish... i want 2 speakers n a sub... 5.1 is overkill for me... don't have anywhere to put the rear speakers.

my boston ba7500s that i got uber-cheap from gateway computers when they shut down are finally dying... the sound level is different everytime you reset the pc :[ now the sound level varies all over the shop n i am constantly trimming the volume which is annoying.

recommendations!?

Get some of those Bose satellites. They're small as but like a kg each. Needless to say the price tag is $500.
