Topic: TF2 Update Problem - SOLVED

Looks like something is borked. There was an update today for TF2 and since then it won't update the game. My games list says "Download starting..." and if I start the game it shows the warning "Steam has found a problem with your local game file."

This error is being reporting on a number of other forums. Some people have had success by changing their download region in Steam's settings.

Thats what you get for using hacks. Mine is ok it seems. I havn't tried to start it up since i'm installing/downloading Overlord II though.

Solution stolen from the Steam forums:

The Root of the Problem

The problem appears to be caused by one of the gcf files not updating or even downloading, which is:

multiplayer ob binaries.gcf

I deleted that file, and hey presto, it download the file again (122MB) and TF2 is 100% ready.

THANKS! I registered to these forums just to thank Euphoria. I probably would have found it on Steam forums eventually, but this came up in google first (searching through steampowered can be a PITA).

Anyway, thanks a bunch man, I was getting pretty pissed off and I'm glad I didn't delete all 7 gigs of local files before finding this!

i suggest backing up your games on steam, atleast if you do need to delete them you wont have to download all of the 7 gigs again.

haha qgl wins at google again.

I've barely played tf2 since the spy/sniper update came out. By the time I finally found the huntsman I was really over it for a while :/

THANKS!
You're welcome. I'm glad someone benefitted - wading through the bazillion "solutions" on the steam forums is painful.

It is. The search function on the Steam forums is weird too. Not allowing words that are less than 4 letters really puzzles me, especially when you consider the fact that so many gaming terms/acronyms are 3 letters as well as most file extensions.

If you installed Steam to C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\ it'll be C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\multiplayer ob binaries.gcf

Another day, another TF2 update!

You'll be happy to see that as part of the latest update:
Reverted Force-A-Nature and airblast knockback on disguised Spies, so that they can once again be knocked back
