Went and saw this tonight in a preview screening, was ok, nothing special. It is non stop action though and the action is a bit easier to follow than the first one. Overall though I think the first might actually be better.

Also Optimus opens a can of whooparse.

What was Isabel Lucas like in it? I saw her Rove interview on youtube and she was the most boring person evar!

She was fantastically hot Rev, and thats all she needed to be!

I saw it the other day, I definately think it went a bit too long, story was weak, and the twin robots were total jar jar binks style comedy relief, completely un-necessary.

But if you disengage the old brain its a sweet movie, its got wicked action and all the chicks/transformers/war s*** was way cool. It was pretty funny as well.

Spoiler:
I thought Megatron was always the leader of the decepticons? What's this fallen crap with him being the apprentice? Seems like they went for a Star Wars angle, I thought that was a bit weak.

Spoiler:
afaik the fallen was one of the 13 original transformers created by primus and was the first transformer to join unicron against primus. so hes sort of the first decepticon. and since unicron and fallen were master and apprentice im guessing they decided to do that with megatron.

im guessing if theres a tf3 they will have unicron in it.

gawd please dont make the Transformers movies into the Matrix Trilogy or the Star Wars (1,2,3) they should have taken their time writing it! Like Spiderman those movies never fail and are always 3-4 years apart (I think)

Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell are the villains in number 2, with Scarlet Johanson as the Black Widow, looks sweet. Also, they replaced the annoying, slightly effeminate black guy who was playing Jim Rhodes with Don Cheadle, also sweet.

I'm guessing you havent seen Spiderman 1... cos that was a whole lot of s***.

And as i just came out of T:ROTF, i must say it was a whole lot of awesomeness!!

the only minor downside - and I'm just being picky cos of having just been to the WHOLE of egypt - are that the fight scenes cutting from one historical site to the next, although impressive, are not situated in remotely the same "ballpark".

but hey... frikin awesome directing, casting & as someone said above... the fight scenes were way easier to follow so much more enjoyable.

Just saw it and it was a LOT better than the first. fixed up many issues like the story focusing mostly on the humans and while this one fixed that a fair bit, it brought about some new issues. I don't know how to do the black spoiler thing so don't read further if you don't want it spoiled.

***SPOILERS***

- Totally under used devistator. The whole movie I was thinking "oh boy, when they break him out it will cause the autobots to s*** bricks... Any second now" and then when he finally appeared, it was like a random mash of robots doing stuff together and he appeared. No "Constructions unite" from megatron or anything. He was f***ing bad ass looking though. He was onscreen for about 5 minutes then they killed him off which leads to my next complaint.

- they just HAPPENED to have a giant experimental, top secret rail gun on a f***ing air craft carrier able to reach f***ing egypt. f*** off. 1 shot and it killed devistator. No epic autobot fight in order to bring him down.

- Soundwave was pretty under used as well. Granted he was never 1 for hardcore action so I guess he stayed true to his roots. Also please note that while they didn't have his exact voice, it was indeed Frank Welker, the original Megatron and Soundwave (among many others) doing his voice. Soon as he spoke I was like f*** YES! Finally something I remember from the 80s show. Also anyone else think of Dr Claw from inspector gadget then too? Same guy.

- New autobots were just... there. No intro to any of them or explanation as to why there was a girl autobot. Arcee just happened to be in the show, and have mabye 2 minutes of screen time before they killed (at least 1 part of her) off. What the s*** was the point of introducing her for?

- Ravage was bloody awesome. Very glad they kept him as soundwave's little pet sorta guy. The part with him dropping the balls into the room was epic

- Too much f***ing human story. f*** off and let me see robots fight

- Fight scenes were a bit... well, fast. I'm not complaining about the action, it was bloody great. Watch a fight scene from a movie like batman begins and you will notice a lot of the time the camera is zoomed in close and shaky. Thats something that doesn't work well with animated robots with 100s of moving parts and details. Mabye it's just that I was too close to the screen though

- Optimus' new death scene was unexpected, even if they did revive him and super size him later. Never be as epic as the original animated movie though

And thats all I can think of right now.

3dee, just thank the stars that isabel lucas barely speaks, because after hearing her talk on rove other weekend..i wanna to fall asleep.

Just got home after seeing it imax before, sold out session. Before the movie even started had to deal with a bunch of f***in retarded asian students who comments on everything in trailers, as soon as the first location of the movie was printed on screen they were like "omg it's there." so i politely turned around and told them to shut the f*** up, then i enjoyed the movie.

It was non-stop action from the get-go, sfx were amazing. Acting was better than first, the one-liners were a crack up. can't think of any faults at the moment.

I remember people commenting about the bot that was sucking up all the sand..well wait till you see who makes it..that scene was mad as!!

My only gripe which happened in Trans 1, when sam was inside his bedroom and talking to optimus through the window you could tell the colouring/rendering wasn't 100% same thing with a scene near the end in trans 2..

oh yeah dm..forgot about the rail gun..that was kinda weak aswell.

Yeah there's so many actors that just act terribly unnaturally.

One example, Anakin and Obi Wan. On the one hand, Ewan McGregor is very natural and pleasant to watch on screen but Hayden has this strained annoying style of acting. Obi Wan feels like the character but Anakin feels like he's being acted. Ya know? Same thing with Digi-Yoda vs Puppet-Yoda. Puppet Yoda ftw.

We dont give a f*** about story and directing, we saw robots fighting and we creamed. Its our childhoods coming to life! I f***ing loved it! Yes there was heaps of flaws, but paying to see giant robots fight in that detail and quality, 20 years ago people would of paid alot more then $15!

I dont care about the art of the film, I enjoyed and thats what matters.

Yeah, I'm sure the film-makers really care about what the reviews say, while they swim in money and light cigars made out of money with burning money.

I agree whole-heartedly with Gramsy, Transformers is all about giant robots smashing s*** up and smashing each other up, and it sounds like the new one delivers on that, so I'm excited! Going to see it tomorrow night :)

Saw it last night.

Rail gun was a bit weak in that it was only used once and had no explanation as to why it was there. Spoiler:
I guess if the Autobots didn't tell us how to make it, we humans had something that looked totally alien.

Spoiler:
I was hoping that Optimus would transform back after taking the stealth fighter's parts to see what he'd look like now, but alas, he got rid of it all.

I spoilered the bits that I haven't seen discussed in this thread yet.

did anyone notice he hurt his hand in the movie and magically got a bandage on it when he was standing with Megan?

Yes, he got a bandage after the old Transformer "opened a space bridge" to Egypt, which took off parts of his hand.

A bandage on the hand? How about they were in the Smithsonian museum in Washington D.C. if I'm not mistaken....and that Old British Deception-Turned-Autobot breaks down a door to get out.....and they're suddenly in the f***ING DESERT.

And I'm not talking about when they teleported to Egypt. No, apparently, Washington D.C. backs onto that aircraft graveyard which I believe is in like Nevada or Arizona or something.

Oh, and of course apparently Megatron can travel between Earth and Cybertron in a minute or two....

God. It's like they purposefully made no effort at all at keeping things consistent.

The explosions were of course decent. Of course a Michael Bay film without good explosions would be pretty damned pointless to watch.

I took that for a random rock planet in our solar system, just past saturn (given the fly by shot) but come to think of it.. are the planets not just gas and ice!?

They definately went for the spectacular scenery rather than geographical coherence!

Yeh well I guess thats the point isnt it. To a 6yr old kid and big kids at heart this is what they want.

To an 80 yr old man this is poo-on-a-stick, which lets face it, it is.
But to the kids its 'awesome' poo-on-a-stick.

Um, there is a bit of language in this and a lot of inuendo so you may want to think twice about it. Nothing real bad like the word f*** or anything but certainly things you don't want a 6 year old to pick up on. Also what type of 6 year old can sit still for 2 1/2 hours?

There are two Smithsonian Air and Space Museums. One is in Washington DC and backs onto the National Mall. The other (the one featured in the movie) is located next to the Washington Dulles Airport. Presumably, at airports they have lots of other planes there.

Here's a Googlemaps picture of the location of where they were supposed to be:

http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/235/museumv.jpg

Though I admit there are not plans in that picture.

If you had been paying attention in the first movie you'd know what Cybertron was destroyed. If you had been paying attention in this movie you would have known that the Fallen guy was on a spaceship type thing.

So before accusing Michael Bay of not being consistent you might want to have the facts yourself.

Seeing this at imax tonight, will be good to watch the CGI transformations.. but thats about all.

I wasn't a fan of #1 simply cos it was too childish (thus appealing to a wider market that will whine to get their parents to take them to see it).

Would have been so kick ass if it was darker..

I thought it was pretty awesome, delivered everything I expected (awesome explosions and lots of giant robots beating the crap out of each other), and Optimus lays down some serious smack. Most disappointing thing though was none of the robots ever made the transforming noise :(

Khel

Haha, he was actually one of my favourites :P I dunno, one of the guys I saw it with thought he was really lame, but I just loved the idea of a crotchety old robot that swore at things and said "bugger" and was slightly out of touch with reality. The only thing I found kinda weird about it was that if its hes meant to be really old and abandonded, wouldn't he be one of the really old planes, something a bit older than a blackbird?
Damo
Posts: 3804

exactly.. you look at the photos that was shown..he was like a wooden plane..

But somehow over time he's been able to change to different planes, but yet he didn't even have enough power to shoot a rocket, but had enough power to teleport them..

I couldn't stand the female bikes, thankfully they weren't really used..

Death of devastator was VERY weak.. They made him some et alien and not a robot, in cartoon he was always standing up..

Yeah, Devastator was way under-used, I was expecting an epic fight vs Devastator, but I guess he cost too much to animate and ate up too much of the budget so they couldn't keep him around for long.

They could of done the movie without Arcee. All they did was show her, give her 1 line and thats it. Whats the point of having her?

Is Soundwave in it? He is by far the best Transformer ever!

Soundwave IS in the movie and true to his 80s roots he is the communications bot. Also he is voiced by the same guy (Frank Welker) but doesn't have the robotic tinge to his voice.

Yeah, Devastator was way under-used, I was expecting an epic fight vs Devastator, but I guess he cost too much to animate and ate up too much of the budget so they couldn't keep him around for long.

They used all the money on explosions, like the one Shia said on conan o'brien that was like 1000 gallons of petrol.

Yeah, I wouldn't say any of it was that offensive, but it wasn't quite as innocent as the first one, it has lots of transformers getting brutally dismembered and "bleeding" green goo everywhere, ravage (the cat transformer) gets basically skinned and has his spine ripped out, Devastator has big testicles, and that little Wheelie thing humps the s*** out of Megan Fox's leg (but then, who can blame him).
