Desmond 'Tuppence' Moran, member of a notorious Melbourne underworld family, has been shot dead - the fourth member of the clan to suffer a violent death.

Mr Moran, 60, the brother of slain gangland figure Lewis Moran and uncle of Jason and Mark, was shot at the Ascot Pasta & Deli Cafe on the busy Union Road shopping strip in Ascot Vale about midday.

He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head, an ambulance spokesman said.

Homicide Detective Inspector Steve Clark said Mr Moran had been confronted by two men wearing dark clothing and balaclavas. Both are believed to have shot at the 60-year-old, who was inside the cafe at the time.

"Two men fled the scene on foot, they were seen getting in a dark blue or green vehicle,'' Detective Inspector Clark said.

The men drove north down Union Road and are yet to found.

Pretty amazing that this stuff is still going on! Especially considering the TV series and all that.

I read this yesterday.. I can't believe (well actually I suppose I can since it was News Corp) the paper had the guy who wrote Underbelly commenting on it.

How many of these Moran mother-f***ers are there? Surely they must all be dead now.

Well, the mum ran off screaming - so there's at least one more out there, albeit a woman. Pretty f***ed up though, imagine having a coffee in a cafe and two dudes walk in and shoot a guy a few times in the head.

A couple of days ago I had nothing to read at lunch so bought the Courier Mail. On page 7 there was a massive article about a 5 year old school kid who had a note sent home to his parents because he didn't have long enough socks (nor did he have a hat...which the article failed to mention but was written in the note). The note said if he didn't start wearing the correct socks he'd be sent to see the principal, then also mentioned if he didn't own the correct socks just send a note back explaining when he would.

And the best part was they had a big "Exclusive Report" stamp on the story. I wonder if the journo got a payrise for that big scoop? It soo reminded me of Anchor Man.
