there has to be a better way than opening safari and navigating to whitepages every time, is there an app that any of you use? i have tried searching the app store but no luck. |

just google the business name like this
"business name in quotes" phone +07 or +02 etc +(area-code) basically so if im looking for harvey norman in chermside "harvey norman" chermside phone +07 on a side note, i just got this rad app called "MCleaner" and its as rad as rad gets I have a profile setup so anyone who calls me with a blocked number, the phone answers all by its self and just hangs up straight away no more annoying calls!@ |

Kind of on-topic but not really:
Is there something special I need to do to see who is phoning me? Friends who call are coming up as unknown when previously they'd come up with the name (or atleast a number) on my previous phone. |

Might be your friends hiding their number, I got no problems with seeing who's calling me provided they are in the contact list, otherwise it shows just the number.

I have a profile setup so anyone who calls me with a blocked number, the phone answers all by its self and just hangs up straight away I always find it curious when people say that don't answer numbers that are withheld or like you teq they get a program that will auto-reject them, because 95% of the calls I receive are from private numbers and they are important business calls. So teq and others, aren't you worried about missing important calls? Especially, since the program teq recommended will mean legitimate callers won't be able to leave him a voice mail. |

there's no excuse for having a private number, if i cant call you back then you can't call me.
I disable it if I'm job hunting but thats about it the only businesses that use private numbers are banks, telemarketers and generally spammy people - ie no one i want to talk to edit: oh right, this is my private mobile if I had a work phone I would answer private numbers on it but my job doesnt require me to make that many calls on the mobile last edited by tequila at 20:42:04 30/May/09 |

Don't some VOIP setup's hide caller ID's?
I wouldn't blanket ban all calls but to each their own EDIT: When a large company calls, you normally only get the main PABX line as the caller ID anyway, so you can only call back the switchboard/reception in any case.... last edited by HeardY at 20:43:22 30/May/09 |

I'm hesitant to answer blocked numbers, but I have a couple of friends who are in health care and block their numbers for clients, then never think to turn it back on before calling friends.

I dont answer blocked numbers either. On the rare occasion its actually not a telemarketer, they will leave a voicemail with their number and I call them back. |

The google ap for the iphone now lets you say s***. So I just say "Shop name and suburb" and it comes up, hit 1 link usually to the contacts page (if google doesnt automatically come up with their phone number) bam. safari is a piece of s*** (as is all apple software). |

On topic - I use google maps for looking up numbers. ...Google Maps lists contact information for businesses by default, so you don't have to hunt for it. last edited by Triamks at 15:51:22 01/Jun/09 |
