Sup yall
Just got raped for $1700 purchasing a Bravia from an "OCAU User" in Perth. Paid through paypal out of my Bank AC (not CC). Just confirming the right COA is through paypal, and my bank can't do s*** given that Paypal taking the money out of my account was actually authorised ? |

Spewin' but I do have to say you're brave buying something of that value over the net, especially not from a reputable store.
I have no idea how all the PayPal stuff works though :( |

Paypal will likely do f*** all about it. It's how they roll and a good reason I don't use it. Ever.

No. CBA Bank AC (Streamline)
Ended up speaking to the guy whose name was being used. Turns out him and his GF were victims of ID fraud a few months ago, police reports filed, etc etc. So this fraudster is using this other guys OCAU AC, Email AC, Paypal AC, etc. It's one of those things you think nah it'll never happen to me Haha f*** |

I think Paypal can pinch the money back from the other users Paypal account as long as they haven't transfered it yet.

Tell the dude you're going to make a police report (and actually do it) see if he s***s himself. He might just be scamming.

I think that sort of thing will happen to me all the time when I think about ordering stuff from anonymous people over the Internet. Bad luck though dude; hopefully PayPal might be able to do something. Best bet for stuff like this though is buy stuff on your CC because most (all?) of them have some sort of protection s*** in case the goods don't turn up (because they can just go kill the merchant). |

Yeah well after speaking to the real guy who's ID was being used, he determined that his passwords were still what he knew them to be, and the email account which was with an ISP he had left some time ago was still active. So after logging into the email AC, which was active, he was able to login to the Paypal account with the same password.
He has determined that the Paypal account is linked to some other bank account, not his, and that this guy has withdrawn about $4k in the last few days. $1700 from me, and $3000 from another guy on OCAU. |

jmr, PayPal have two policies in place to protect the buyer: - PayPal Buyer Protection Policy (ebay purchases up to $20k) - PayPal Buyer Complaint Policy (non-eBay purchases) The latter applies to you: PayPal Buyer Complaint Policy: This policy applies to purchases that are made on non-eBay websites, or eBay websites that do not offer policies similar to this PayPal Buyer Protection Policy. This policy only applies to claims of “item not received”. Get on it. |

Hi, Ouch! Have you mentioned it to Ma Baker or myself on OCAU? We are happy to provide info to the police and have done so several times in the past. But more importantly, let me know the details of the OCAU account(s) in question so at the least I can ban them. I've been out for most of today so if you've already sent info via PM or email, I should find it soon. :) Cheers Agg (OCAU) |

Really? I think that sort of thing will happen to me all the time when I think about ordering stuff from anonymous people over the Internet. I think about it so much I've never purchased anything over the net. I've ordered stuff from the umart site but always go to pick it up and if I buy anything from some random dude I'll drive to their house to see/get the goods. I'll never do a direct deposit into anyone's account and paypal can suck my fat wang. |

I have a signed cheque for sale. It has a $21,951.21 written on it. I find the cheque is too heavy and bulky for my wallet. $2100 and it's yours, but if you twist my arm I might drop my prices to $2000 square. |

Get the Bikies on to it.
Im amazed this doesnt happen more often. Ebay is like the worlds Stash Converters. Whirlpools OnTheInternet Forum has a lot of PayPal threads that might give you some help. Does QGL have any kind of rules in place to stop similar stuff happening here ? |

You're an idiot for paying with paypal. I would have thought paypal would be safer than just bank xfering it. That said, I still wouldn't send more then $50 to a random on a forum. I have purchased a lot of car parts over forums > $50 and never had a prob. |

I would have thought paypal would be safer than just bank xfering it.Clearly this proves it's not safe to transfer with paypal. With bank deposit atleast then you get the persons name/bank details and could track them down. On top of this Banks will go further than paypal will, paypal will simply try withdraw the money back. If it can't do this then it gives up. This is their s***ty buyer protection. Paypal is horrible. So is ebay but that's a completely different story. |

it doesn't prove that at all - I use paypal regularly both personally and on behalf of my business to perform financial transactions in a safe manner. like anything though, just don't use the tools you have in a manner that's risky
giving money to anyone you don't know and hoping they're trustworthy has very little to do with paypal even if it does happen to be a fact that you have less recourse when using paypal, then be honest and make that your claim |

I don't understand why you haven't gotten Paypal to refund it.
My Paypal account was frauded, some dude cracked my account, logged in, and transferred £500 from my bank account to his paypal account. I initiated a complaint/fraud process via Paypal's online services, within a few days they had revoked the transaction and returned the £500 into my back account. You've made a buyers transaction and they haven't supplied the item, so you can complaint the transaction then get it returned. |

Paypal adds an extra level of protection for ebay buyers but you can't beat credit card protection for it's absolute coverage.
And you know that if they don't want to use ebay + paypal or a credit card, they are prolly suspect. |

+1 to taking this up with paypal already.
they offer protection in these circumstances when the amounts are deducted from Direct debit. Certainly been incidents recently and people have had the cash back within a day or two. |

My missus had significant credit card fraud. Either that or she visited prostitutes often (what the fraudster used the card to pay for). VISA sent out a form, she filled it in and sent it back and had an instant refund. In another instance she didn't get a refund though. We booked a hotel in Rome but then we couldn't find it. Walking up and down the correct street, no question, couldn't find the bastard. I tried to call them multiple times, no answer. They charged her card in full for the night (we ended up staying elsewhere). After we returned to Australia we lodged a complaint with VISA who refunded us in full initially. Then they followed up with the hotel in Rome who said that they were following policy (even though by then we explained we couldn't find it and they wouldn't answer phone, which is an unsatisfactory customer experience). VISA took refunded money back. *sigh* |

Just get their address and send some goons around. I did that when boba stitched up my girlfriend sending her to some s***kunt mob in Melbourne. They took her money and f***ed her around, I had to get involved and get some mates to go and sort them out. She got her money back. |
