for those of you who still use hotmail from msn dayz, ull be pleased to hear that gmail can now download all messages from hotmail like it can from almost any other mailbox. this happened only recently, maybe 1 or 2 weeks ago?
great news. discus |

Does it? Because last time I remember, they blocked that stuff that users will never use because its horrible and complicated. Only paid members got it.

this happened only recently, maybe 1 or 2 weeks ago? You've been able to do it for ages. Hell, someone asked about it here a while back (edit: it was Pinky). All you had to do was take the settings used for setting up Outlook Express and slap them into Gmail. last edited by Mantorok at 23:12:14 21/May/09 |

Yeh they gave POP3 and IMAP out as freebies around the same time they started calling bloody everything Live.
Once they opened that up it was a very short moment before Google turned it on in GMail cos its pretty much trivial to do. |

just switch to gmail already ffs I tried to switch to Gmail, just couldn't stand not being able to turn off the conversation "feature". Went back to Hotmail and love it, plus my @live.com.au email addresses look way more pro than either of @hotmail.com or @gmail.com. Plus the http access integration into Windows Live Mail for Hotmail kicks ass, way better than either of IMAP or POP3. |

I agree, gmail is where it's at, but why would I want to get all my hotmail spam sent to my gmail? It defeats the purpose of having a spam email! |

Yeah, you can't buy a domain and point it to a hotmail account like you can with gmail. It's possible to point a domain to a Microsoft Live@edu Mail accounts which allows full exchange access to Outlook 2007 clients but it's a bit of a pita to set up, plus you need to be an educational entity to get access to it.

Hotmail is horrible. I don't know why I continue to use it over Gmail. I get several junk emails a day. At least half get through the s***ty filter. Even things like CUM IN HER ASS TONIGHT? as the subject. Don't know why it's a question.

because its horrible and complicated. It is? Also since when have MS granted IMAP and POP3 free to everyone? Last I heard Live mail granted POP3 but only via the Plus upgrade (and thus sucked because its not IMAP). |

I have decided the only way gmail can work as well as it does is that they actually send spam themselves which they know is spam, so it makes their spam filter looks awesome |

I get ridiculous amounts of spam with my Gmail account (a convenience account). I never signed up to any spam!

I have been getting a lot of spam in my GMail inbox lately - the kind with a hash key in it, which seems to avoid the spam detection quite well. Yeah, I use GMail to download my Hotmail messages via POP3 as someone said above. All my accounts are managed in GMail - I love it. Don't know why you would want to turn conversations off, kos, best feature ever. And archiving. The half-way house between trash and 'should I keep this email?' but when you want a clear inbox. |

Problem with spam and public email providers is that its easy to work out valid email addresses by spamming name combos and looking for "address is wrong" postmaster replies.

Not being able to manage labels in any intelligent way is still a big let down. People have made greasemonkey scripts to do it - but gmail keeps changing so those don't work anymore. I'm stuck with a list of 500 labels I have to scroll through.

I finally had enough of managing my own email and redirected my domain to gmail. I get about 400-500 spam emails a day and even though SpamAssassin is AWESOME it still managed to let slip about 5% of it. Ever since changing to gmail I've had maybe 1 or 2 spam emails in the past 6 months.

Don't know why you would want to turn conversations off, kos, best feature ever. Because all my official emails like bills and payslips were disappearing by getting chunked together in no controllable way, why would I want to click on a payslip from a month ago and scroll down to see my latest payslip? For those people who think I'm crazy for liking hotmail, don't worry I agree that the web interface sucks, and never use it. I just like how it works with the Windows Live Mail program. |

Oops I lied, there doesn't seem to be manual IMAP.
The various incarnations of Windows Live for desktop etc are imitating it, probably by web services or something. |
