OK, i've been watching a bit of Major League Baseball on ONEHD and Also IPLT20 Cricket.

Ive come to the conclusion (obviously biased cause im from australia and have never been to an actual baseball match and have been to several cricket games) that Cricket is way better than baseball.

People talk about criket being boring, god damm, have they seen baseball, nothing happens and when it does its not that exiting, even the crowd and the players dont seem that excited to be there.

Heres my List of things things to backup my statement.

1. They catch with those friggin huge gloves, it makes the act of taking a catch a foregone conclusion when it goes near a player, the hard catches are made realy easy cause they have this huge mit, and even the realy hard catches would have been ten times harder without the glove, when you see a cricketer take a realy hard catch its awesome, but I just cant get excited about a baseball player taking a catch, it doesnt seem that hard.

2. They dont seem to actualy hit the ball that often, so many strike outs and getting a free walk to first base, boring.

3. Big hits, they dont seem to hit the ball that far very often, am I expecting too many home runs? I havent seen one yet.

4. No one seems to care when someone gets out, I guess becuase they have to get 3 outs for each innings and there is 9 innings so thats 27 outs, but you'd think they would get a little excited. You just dont see the excitment you see when someone gets a wicket in cricket.

Im sure there are other reasons, and I'm sure i'm simplyfing baseball, but cricket just seems so much better and take alot more skill to play.

Baseball is an ok sport.
Its really more about Atmosphere/tension.
as bases load up or balls/strikes build up
Prolly equates better to 20/20 cricket.

Top speed of baseball pitchers is same as fast bowlers.

Kinda agree with you there, a good test match is still awesome though. I was more comparing baseball to one dayers/t20.

Only thing more boring then cricket is baseball on my list of sports. At least cricket has the "i remember playing that as a kid" factor as well as "I kinda know that guy because i walked past him once in a shop". If i was living in America it'd probably be the other way around for the exact same reasons.

Actually probably equates to test cricket realy, 20/20 is about a million times more fast paced than baseball.

Cricket is too hot and stinky. Baseball is played in cooler areas (like outside of Australia) so it wins.
Both games' big feature is standing around doing nothing, so they are very similar.

Alan Border was Baseballer and Cricketer in his early years.
When he was playing Sheffield Shield for South Australia ? he was also in the State Baseball team and his week usually consisted of BaseBall or Cricket practice/game.
Lucky for us he stuck with Cricket.

I didn't even realise there was a debate, I just assumed everyone realised cricket was better

cricket and baseball are just really different sports, they share the same equipment, bat and ball, but thats about it.

Baseball seems more boring because the pitches come slower (in terms of how often they are thrown, not the ball speed), and it's alot easier to get a strike in baseball, than to get out in cricket. Meaning that all the batsmen in baseball are naturally prone to NOT taking risks. Reducing the total amount of action that is happening.

No, there aren't alot of home runs hit in most games. Maybe 1 or 2 on average?

I agree the mit seems to reduce the over all skill level, but remember that most wear it on their left hand. so that they can throw with their right. Adds a little to it (though i presume after 5 years of that, you'd get used to it).

I think crickets a better over all sport, tests fitness alot more, concertration, and requires just as much hand/eye co-ordination. Plus there always seems to be more happening and more frequently, than in baseball.

Most people who go to the baseball are like test cricket fans, you go there for the occasional high light, but more, the atmosphere of the crowd.

I guess that makes sense, but then again, the only test match i'd go to is an international one, so Its actualy a big game, I guess a final's series of baseball would be exciting I guess.

the ball used in baseball is also larger than a cricket ball.

takes about same amount of time to throw a ball as it dose waiting for brett lee to walk back and then start running in to bowl the ball. After all these years I still don't see why they need a massive run up like that..Look at the beach cricket, they still get the speed and accuracy with just a couple steps.

Huh?
After all these years I still don't see why they need a massive run up like that

The stress on the body to go through that sort of action from a stationary position or even slow moving start is way too much. As it is fast bowlers generally have a shorter career or optimal performance window than other cricketers. By increasing the stress on the body with shorter run ups that would make it much worse.

both are as dull as dishwater to spectate. cricket is easier to setup a quick game in yur backyard so it wins imo.

i grew up playing baseball and cricket;

both are awesome sports (alhtough cricket is better to watch)

i guarantee you there are catches made in baseball that cricketers would dream of being able to make, due to the gloves

also there are a lot less dropped catches and as a rule the ball is coming at you much faster (and especially as catcher)

they arent in competition with each other, they live happily beside each other;

spook i agree.

i played baseball when i was younger, never played cricket apart from the backyard variety.

i enjoy watching/playing both, never thought that they were in competition with each other. baseball in Australia is a pretty small niche sport.

I only though about it after reading comments on some youtube videos about cricket catches, baseball people start saying they take catches like that everyday etc.

baseball is pretty popular in australia

we had the claxton shield for years, which was an australia wide comp:

we've always been pretty competitive on teh world stage with our national team and australian players have done well making it in the us and japan, which are both big markets

i don't mind a friendly bash at backyard cricket... i just find it boring to watch at a professional level or otherwise. somebloke throws the ball, somebloke hits the ball, somebloke catchs the ball, rinse, repeat. fkn yawnsville. soccer & similar ballsports are even worse... i can't watch for more than a few minutes before i'm totally bored.

NO! They are in direct competition FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT. Like AFL vs League vs Union

amongst paedophiles.

Also how s*** is basketball and american football. Actually american football would be better without the constant stopping. Call plays on the spot and only have one 'team' per 'team'.

NBA use to be awesome in the 90s, but now it's just all about who earns the most.. I don't even know the names of people playing anymore..

NFL is a good sport, just takes time getting use to it. can't wait to go over and watch it in person. We have nfl in aus, just not on the usa scale

I'll put it in terms you understand

Baseball is a plasma, SD.

Cricket is an LCD, HD 1080P.

I'm busy playing Aussie Rules, 2 kids doesn't allow for the time demands of cricket. nor does the state of my lower back.

clearly cricket is a far more tactical game, where as baseball is just a game of fast reflexes.

Question to anyone that's actually keeping an eye on the MLB games on ONEHD - has it been a good mix of team representation? Or are they just following the "brand" teams (Boston, NYY, LAA, LAD, etc)?

If by some chance they show an SF Giants game, and Tim Lincecum is pitching - take a look at his action - the guy could *easily* be a cricket bowler in another life.
