I got my joystick from http://www.ozstick.com.au/

It's been abused for years now, looks like brand new, pwns for MAME.

He builds full cabs.

Do people play theirs a lot? I keep thinking about making one but can't help but think it'll just end up sitting in the corner gathering dust after two weeks of intense playing like most toys I buy heh.

Just buy a big ass arcade stick.

Unless you are NUTS about MAME and emulators, a stick is suffice.

Even then, I play emulators daily and while a cabinet would be nice, they're not $200 :(

Speaking of arcade and such, anyone happen to know a good place to buy a PS3 compatible arcade stick from? SF4 with a controller is damn hard.

A QGLer posted a pic up a few days ago of their new setup.

Looked brutal, I would ask them.

Think it's in the government stimulus thread.

Cabinets (at least they used to) tend to bring *s***loads* of configuration hassle with it.

if you are the real rocknrolla you will want an actual 15khz screen, which means you need to customize a million different modelines to deal with all the different resolutions out there. MAME can handle it pretty well, but AdvanceMAME blows it away. Problem with it is it's been out of recent development since 2006.

If you just use the standard res all your games will play windowed or need to be scalared (yuck) to suit.

I reckon a stick with a rotatable 22" screen or above (eg. portrait) is all you need :).

All of ours are computers. We don't have any boards (yet).

You can get some second hand cabinet on ebay and gut it, maybe if you are lucky you can get it with a working arcade monitor.

If you want to build it, I think you will do ok to look up Stars & Stripes Amusements in Underwood.
Give em a ring and see what they have. (07) 3290 1991. 3-500 should get a 25" or better?

You will want one of these.

Most of the modeline configuration smarts is built into the above hardware now (phew!). But, you may still need the J-pac bridge over JAMMA to get your joysticks & vga. read the forums or ask Andy

Hi DM, this is a coincidence!! Click below:

Seriously though, after playing on the controller these months and years ago back in the snes days, an arcade stick is f***ing hard to get used to ay :/ I know it will pay off but gotta be patient... Just like it was going from playing fps games with keyboard only, to mouse look...

Ok

The Chinese and Taiwanese started pumping out 1000 in 1++ boards a few years back which are basically appliances rather than tinkerable / internettable mame boxes.. The gamedude ones look like that?

Yeah the gamedude cabinets look good enough, but isnt half the fun of a mame cabinet building it? I know it would be for me, and knowing that i could repair/upgrade it when the time comes aswell.

Hey Spook,

For details on how to build one, visit my blog here:
http://blog.windowsvirtualization.com/mce/my-home-server-update-8

Cost is about $500 AUD for all bits and pieces, but you will need your own PC and Monitor

Photos and build process are here

Hope this helps
