so i end up with music files in directory A.. i make sure these are good quality and if required i rate them. these are then moved to directory B but i have to manually go into itunes and change the file path or add the file again and remove the old one (and re-rate etc).

how can one automatically update the filepath? is this clear?

Well i sort of do the same thing.

Is go into Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced

Tick Keep iTunes Folder Organized & Copy Files to iTunes Music folder when adding to libaray

Then what i do is in directory A i listen to files using windows media player or someother device then when i am happy with it just drag the file to itues program and it automatically copies the file and puts it in the right directory etc. and then down the track if happen to want to change the artists or description etc. iTunes automatically change the file name and organises the file for me.

What the hell??? So when you rate your music, iTunes is changing the physical location of the files??? That sounds extremely odd.

Sounds more like you're coping them into that other directory manually? iTunes doesn't play well with that.

Your options are to manually handle your file system, but only add stuff to the iTunes library once you're finalised the file's location OR let iTunes do everything for you.
