Just wondering. Is there a mobile phone that can take a photo as good at a low end digital camera eg $200 canon powershot quality?. Also, should be able to play mp3 to ipod level of quality. I don't really care about other smartphone features, I just want rationalize my phone, ipod, and camera into one device.

Well currently no phone camera will be as good as a dedicated camera so you will have to compromise there. However if you just want a multimedia smart phone that'll be easy to use and will sync with you itunes the your choice is simple get an iphone

n96 is better than 95....and the 97 is better again (with full qwerty keyboard and more space)

I'm seriously considering a Nokia N79 at the moment - it's the s*** keypad that's holding me back.

Given how much effort they put into putting decent cameras into phones, isn't it about time they started saying "okay, we're going to make this as good as a proper camera"? :/

New iPhone coming out is highly probably to have a 3.2MP update.

There is an LG phone that has an 8 mega pixel camera. But as far as I know the number of mega pixels does not scale with picture quality. Meaning a 3.2 mega pixel could be far better than an 8 mega pixel camera.

i have n96 and love it. the photos you get from both the n95 and n96 are amazing for it being a phone. but n97 will bomb all.

my gf has the omnia and that has a pretty good 5mp camerra too. depends whether you want smartphone look or phone phone look.

Yep, this is totally true. Lens quality + sensor size/quality are more important than "# of megapixels", but there's this common assumption that more megapixels == better, which is how these asshat companies market their cameras or camera components, so its a total PITA trying to get real data about how good the phones are.

I have heard the N95/96 have good cameras though from a bunch of people but aside from that I just assume all cameraphones are s***

iPhone takes quite decent photos for looking at on your PC, but certainly not the sort that you would want to get printed.

infi, did you happen to have an n95 8G before that?
i upgraded from the 8G to the n96 and prefer the n95 8G. cos the n96 has double the space, it sems to take double the time addressing it.

also, a mate of mine doing honours photography @ QCA told me that a lot of phone cameras actually have a droplet of water with a thin silicone film over them as a lens. so when they go on about "awesome carl zeiss lens!!11" it's not actually precision ground glass.

i had n95 4gb and nothing wrong with it, it worked beautfiully just its exterior was a little clunky. n96 is a far more polished finish and handles wireless and media player better. as for the memory size i can't say i have taken it over 4gb. but i haven't notice a problem, it plays mp3 vids like a dream.

MY PET PEEVE IS THE s*** BHATTERY. Thankfully n97 is gonna have a massive battery

on the n96? what are you doing wrong... mine lasts over a week which, when compared to an iphone, is a LIFETIME.

+1 for Sony Ericcson here. My last phone was K750i now I have W880i and love it.

Next phone is going to be tough. I have one eye on HTC stuff and one eye on the Sex 1.

I have a SE C902, and it's f***ing atrocious. The image quality is horrible, constant freezing (which sounds like a common problem - my friend bought one a day before I did from a different network, and has the exact same freezing problems as I do) etc.

A Sony Ericsson representative came into work (I work at 3) to show off some upcoming phones. During her little presentation, she 'let slip' that SE only make their phones to last around 18 months or so.

WHOOPS!

Omnia camera quality is great, but the phone as a whole is pretty f***ed to use. Just really clunky and unresponsive.

I'd say Nokia N-series would be the best bet for an all-round media style phone. Check out the Nokia N85. Much slimmer than the N95, comes with a free 8gb memory card in the box, still with a 5mp camera, GPS etc.
