i have an asus m2n-mx se mother board.
Just a quick question... I'm formatting my computer and installing vista64bit. i currently have 32bit winXP. I'm pretty sure you have to install 64bit drivers when installing vista but when i go to 'http://au.asus.com/search.aspx?searchitem=1&searchkey=m2n-mx+se' (the motherboard website), they don't have chipset drivers for 64bit vista only xp. does this mean it won't run a 64bit OS? |

The mobo could be too old to support 64bit Vista and if it's not in the driver list on their site that's prolly a good indication.

Dude, it's an nForce4 board. Grab this:

AFAIK Vista has some fairly good generic drivers that work with a wide range of hardware. For example, Vista32 supports my old nForce 2 mobo out of the box.

thanks a bunch Mantorok.
i'm starting to think that vista has problems with my video card. After installing vista, it goes to the OS booting up screen (the little green bar going across the screen, use to be blue in XP with an XP logo), after that it comes up with this big blue screen and talks about an error, and it starts listing this huuge number. does that sound about right (coz i'm guessing thats when windows loads up the vid card drivers as it takes a while before the blue screen error appears). then it'll either ask me to restart to computer in safe mode (which i've done and same problem) or it'll just restart the computer after the bluesceens been on for about 1second. any ideas? last edited by Fixity at 21:20:16 20/Apr/09 |

after that it comes up with this big blue screen and talks about an error, and it starts listing this huuge number That's just a typical blue screen. Could be a number of things that are causing it. Memory, Power Supply, Drivers? Has your system loaded into windows even once since attempting the install? Try restoring OS to earlier point (eg, a date before it began bluescreening). What hardware you trying to run it on? Have you installed the motherboards chipset drivers correctly? etc etc.. |
