Is it just me or did anyone else find that middle series of Red Dwarf was the most awesome?

No, only Doug Naylor wrote the special.

The problem with the new episode was the lack of even a single ounce of comedy. It was totally f***en unfunny, which for a comedy is kind of a problem.

I got a few laughs out of it, but yeah, it did feel pretty flat.
All the actors are in pretty good shape though, I expected them to all be old and fat by now. |

Rimmer looked pretty chubby. But yeah, I watched it because it's Red Dwarf but it wasn't funny. I get constant laughs from Arrested Development, or 30 Rock this - zip, nadda. RD should have been left to die.

I'm with Khel here, had a few laughs, but felt like they were just using it purely as a setup for the other two eps. At least I hope that's the case. What I don't get is that it looks like they've totally ignored s8?

Yeah, they probably haven't ignored Season 8 cause the photo of Kochanski was that chick, what they've done is left the cliffhanger S8 ending completely unexplained. Fingers crossed for it being explained in the next 2 parts or I'll be pissed. |

After watching the second episode, it looks like they're treating it as an in-joke, they refer to a season 9 where stuff happened that we never saw. Second episode was better I thought, but its really just turned into a kind of parody of itself.

I'll definitely look into this.
LOVE Season 1 - 4, seen every episode probably close to 30 times each. Season 5 and 6 were enjoyable too. Some of the stuff is hit and miss, but with episodes like "Legion" (dinner scene = win) and the finale "Back to reality" from Season 5... you can't help but laugh. Season 7 was a bit dodge, 8 ruined it for me. |

i haven't watched the third epsiode yet but yer... first ep was unfunny & it really showed that it was much older actors doing the same ol' s***. rimmer, in particular, had very poor dialog... like some hack was told to write 'rimmer jargon' or something :( the second ep was definitely better but still not a patch on the old red dwarf :( hopefully the third ep will have some larfs but i'm not holding my breath.
