Ok, trying to connect up a network multifunction printer.
The instructions that came with it state:
Now I'm useless when it comes to networks, and they s*** me to tears to set-up, but there will be two computers sharing the printer so I though it made sense to get a network printer. What IP address etc am I supposed to set on the printer? Any help please....... |

Now tell us what sort of network device you have connecting the three devices. Please say at least a hub if not a router.
If a hub, and you need to set your ip addresses manually, set it in the same IP range as your current two PCs except with a different last octet. If a router or some sort of smartish switch, which assigns you network addresses on your PCs (DHCP) then also let the network printer pull its address from DHCP. |

on one of your computers on the network do,
start > run > cmd ipconfig It will give tell you an IP address (commonly something like 192.168.0.12). On your printer, set it up to be the same IP except for the last part, ie: 192.168.0.12 - Your PC 192.168.0.233 - Set your printer to this And then hopefully all will be good0. |

Thanks for the quick replies.
I was a bit suss that the light wasn't on on the router (D-Link DI-524) so I tried another cable in another port and the lights lite up it seems to print ok at the moment. Other than the printer, the router has a laptop and XBox 360 plugged into it and soon to be another PC. If I plug the printer into Port 1 or 2 it doesn't work, computer is plugged into 3, and the printer works in 4. I think the router has a problem with ports 1 and 2 (where I initially had it plugged into). |

Nothing pisses me off more than networking. I did used to LAN a bit and every time I would swear never to do it again.
But all seems good now printer wise. What is that router you tell everyone to get? I think mine is causing problems, especially that port 1 and 2 seem to not be working. I'm on Optus cable and will need wireless and at least 4 ports. last edited by mission at 22:24:03 27/Jan/09 |

install it as a local printer (using the latest software it has), then go into the printer properties and click on port, and add a new tcp/ip port with the ip of the printer
that'll be $225. It's past 5pm :P last edited by koopz at 22:56:23 27/Jan/09 |
