I think for SNES it would have to be that super mario bro's collection that had all of them on there. By far the overall best cartridge there was. Otherwise perhaps mario kart or maybe rock'n'roll racing for s***s/giggles.

Edit: Forgot battletoads. How could I forget battletoads, hardest game ever. Also Turtles in Time :D.

Trying to pick one SNES game as my favourite is incredibly hard. I had so much fun on heaps of them. Terranigma gets mention as one of the best RPGs I've ever played, but then again, Zelda: Link to the Past was f***ing awesome too.

As for NES, Snake Rattle n' Roll gets another vote. Yes, I still have it, no, you can't buy it.

Super Mario All-Stars was the compilation of the NES Mario games (there was also a version which included Super Mario All-Stars and Super Mario World on the one cartridge).

My vote would be for Super Mario Kart and Super Mario Bros. 3

I'm pretty sure linking to ROM sites is frowned upon around here.

The legality of obtaining out-of-date ROMs is not clear-cut. The argument hinges around whether the game is available for commercial purchase. All of those games are not.

I have reviewed the Australian copyright law and abandonware is explicitly prohibited. Link removed.

Pretty sure it revolves around whether it's still copyright or not, which I'd say they are.

Yeah last I heard copyright lasts for something like 100 years? I'm no doubt wrong though. I believe however that if I bought the game, regardless of how long ago it may be, i'm entitled to still own it in some form. SoM will always have a place on my hard drive

NES - Mike Tyson's Punch Out, and Life Force.
I still play them on an emulator on my Wii, especially Life Force, although it's brutally difficult.

SNES - I think I've played a SNES about once in my life and I don't remember the game.

Donkey kong country (1&2)
Mario Kart (I still believe this is the best game ever, primarily on the 64 tho)
Zelda
Harvest moon! Obsessed both on snes and later on an emulator.
And there was some random loony toons olympics type game that I played to death, but then could never find again :(

SNES: Secret of Mana.
Honorable mentions:
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the past
Rock 'n Roll Racing

There were a lot of games which were awesome at their time, but you go back and think "What was I thinking!?"
Those games include:
TMNT Tournament Fighter
Clay Fighter
Donkey Kong Country
Killer Instinct - at it's time this game was so much faster than every other beat 'em up. But now, compared to Soul Calibur, it feels like you're playing in slow-mo.
Chrono Trigger - this game was mostly hype. When translated to English and you actually have to follow the storyline, and compared to SoM, it was rubbish.
Mario World
Mario Kart

Bomberman and NBA Jam were certainly great games, too bad you needed friends to enjoy them :D

It used to be 50 years but since signing a recent Free Trade Agreement with the USA it is now 70 years.

I dont know how anyone can go past FFVI (or FFIII depending on your jurisdiction) for the SNES.

As for the NES Mario All Stars or Double Dragon would get my vote.

Not reeeaaaally. Nintendo are quite explicit on the fact that they retain copyright over all their old, s***ty material. Even the stuff that is abominable and unmarketable, they won't let it go.

I believe however that if I bought the game, regardless of how long ago it may be, i'm entitled to still own it in some form. SoM will always have a place on my hard drive

From a moral end ethical standpoint, I couldn't agree with you more. This is how it should be, but unfortunately it is not so. A lot of ROM sites will claim that you can download a ROM if you already own the physical cartridge for or you can 'demo' it for 24 hours then delete it. Both of these claims are a crock of s***.

I think Home of the Underdogs had it bang on the money; if software is not available for consumers to purchase legitimately, downloading or replicating it should not be a crime. I can't legitimately acquire a brand new copy of Final Fantasy 7 (a lot of companies hate second hand sales as much as piracy). Why should it be a crime for me to copy this game? Do the copyright owners just want me to sit there and suffer, unable to enjoy their material that I would happily pay money for if given the opportunity?

Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 and 3 are all equally pwn in their own way.

Perfect platformer games, I've finished each at least 50 times. I've finished the original DKC in one sitting/no lives lost but have been unable to complete DKC2/DKC3 in the same manner.

Got a arcade setup from the dude down at Ozsticks, soooo nice and precise for DK's.

Except stuff is slowly being released for services like Wii's Virtual Console or on the Playstation Store for PSP/PS3. Then people bitch that nothing has been changed, and they'd rather just play a ROM/ISO image on an emulator because it costs more than a beat up copy at Cash Converters.

So basically, the argument just goes from "Stupid developers, either sell it to me or give it to me free" to "Hey, I didn't want you folks to make money when you were selling it to me". And then people wonder why s*** never gets a re-release.

Anyone ever get an online game working via Zsnes ever?

I remember trying AGES ago, 5 years or so, no luck.

Would LOVE to do some turn by turn Mario All Stars + World with some other plaform gamers.

Use SNES9x v1.51. Netplay was always pretty weak in ZSNES and the code has been completely removed in recent revisions.
