It costs more than tf2
edit: Check the wikipedia article for this game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal_(video_game) It mentions the companion cube plush toy several times, and also mentions the cube from the game, but never explains what it is. Typical wikipedia assumes the person reading the article is already a fan of the topic at hand! last edited by thermite at 21:07:04 10/Jan/09 |

I was expecting something strange.
Instead it was an entirely reasonable item. Go play Portal. |

Yeah, a brilliant game. So much more than just puzzles.
There are a few add on mission stories / map packs that have been developed by various people. I think they were posted on qgl / ausgamers a while ago. Do a quick search. A warning though: some of them are crazy hard to finish. Just checked my installs. One of the add-ons is called Prelude and here's another one: http://portalmaps.wecreatestuff.com/. |

It's been a while so I can't recall exactly. I don't think so. Actually I don't think I finished Prelude so it may.

I played Portal for about 10 minutes and got bored :( I suck This should be used as a tutorial for posting on the internet. See people, this is how you claim something and provide supporting, undesputable evidence backing that statement up. trog, what you've just said here is blasphemy. And you call yourself a gamer. :) |

They could so make a deathmatch/coop of this. Teleport around trying to f*** up other people's jumps over hazards, or teleport sentries and orbs over to their position, or drop cubes on their head... First to get to the end of the maze wins.
But seriously would love a sequel that goes into the plot further. It doesn't even have to have the portal gun.. lol |

The cube can be stood upon to reach a higher spot, it can be placed on a button to keep it pressed down while you go and do something else, you can carry it infront of you like a shield, or as a bat to swat flying objects, you can drop it on sentries to disable them, etc.... So it's function is nothing - but it can help you solve the puzzles. You basically have a gravity gun thing to carry it around.

Yes there is a lot of emotional blackmail regarding one particular cube in the game (the one with the hearts on it). You are told all this s*** about how the cube loves you and you should take care of it, and that it will never threaten you. Then they make you throw it in the incinerator to get past this one bit, which seems normal at the time, but then you are continually reminded that you are a cube murderer, and that your hesitation to euthanise the cube was shorter than any other test subject and all this s*** that just makes you feel horrible about what you've done.

I cant be bothered explaining but they use humour in the game. Cube fits in here somewhere. Probably the funniest game I have ever played.
If you don't play portal or whatever I don't care - your loss as far as I am concerned but I am not fanboy enough to try and convince someone to like the same product/game as me. One of the best SP games ever. |
