a) f*** I hate the ting tings.
b) f*** I hate empire of the sun.
c) f*** I hate Bon Iver.

I can't believe people are voting for them.

Presets won't win because there is no clear favourite. I voted for Eucalyptus because I think its the best song in the list. My People isn't even in the list!

This one's a gem I reckon: Rapture, The - No Sex For Ben

That's going to be right up there.

As usual the pop songs will be top. It will be MGMT or Presets number 1. I'm tipping Presets - Talk like that. Hardcore pop songs like MGMT usually fall out to the slightly less (but not much less) pop songs like the Presets.

Examples of this phenomenon in the past:
2002, No one knows - Queens of the Stone Age (beating out Grinspoon - Chemical Heart which was very pop by then)
2003, Are you gonna be my girl - Jet (beating out OutKast - Hey Ya!). That Jet song became massive pop, but at that stage wasn't quite on high rotation on Triple M and so on.
2005, Wish you well - Bernard Fanning (beating Ben Lee - Catch my Disease who by then had crap all radio play on triple j)

Amirite?

That sex on fire song is very popular with the new myspace generation. It is like when I was 10 years old it was the roof that was on fire and we didn't need water and all that.

I thought overall it was a pretty good selection. I was stoked that Ting Tings made it into the top 10 because I knew it would annoy a bunch of people here.

The top 10 I thought was a bit weak, mostly because I just don't like Presets and think MGMT are mega-overrated. This was the first year where there were like 2 songs in the top 10 I wouldn't have picked in a million years (Pez and Empire of the Sun).

point was it was half the same s***, just instead of terrible australian hiphop they play top 40.

what i'm saying is unless you love terrible DJs rather than just average ones, or happen to bar up at the noise of aussie hiphop then you might as well listen to nova. and nova even does uncharted, which is like unearthed but without richard kingsmill queering the place up.

also, as if the Js does anything special with new music, they don't play s*** until it gets released as a single. and its not like they get singles any earlier.

Until Nova ceases to be a commercial radio station, has programmes in a similar vein to Hack and Dr Carl then what's the point.

I'll agree that the J's is s*** compared to the golden era which to me was just after they added the 3rd J and had Mikey/Helen and Sandman doing the Morning show and played a whole heap more Indie/Grunge etc but it's still better than any of the commercial offerings we have.

I find I just use those addons for music players that recommend similar music to what I am listening to and get stuff friends recommend and go the mp3 player route rather than radio most of the time now.

hack, current affairs dumbed down to patronising levels

agree with the sentiment that jjj despite the decline in the last decade or so is still the most worthwhile station. however online sources have almost completely replaced my radio intake

Surely though they can only play what is available to them, ie be guided by trends in music? If grunge was still popular and valid, they would probably still play it. But like all decades in popular music, trends come and go, and what you are hearing now is what is deemed to be popular and/or fresh. I'd have a problem listen to the same old tripe over and over, so am grateful we have a station like JJJ in Oz. I can't even think of a comparison over here in the UK, and find myself either listening to my ipod or talk radio rather than trying to sit through crappy stations.

"Current affairs" is a severe misnomer for hack. It should be called the "s*** that is irrelevant half-hour."

"Current affairs" is a severe misnomer for hack. It should be called the "s*** that is irrelevant half-hour."
Hack is one of the greatest things JJJ does. It's like a bridging step to REAL current affairs programmes (not Today Tonight or any of that mass market s***, but actual useful shows like SBS Insight). They specifically target things that are of interest to our demographic as well, including a lot of technology, digital rights, civil rights, environmental, all that sort of stuff.

I don't think the current chick is as good as the last guy (Steve Kinain? and the dude before that was INCREDIBLE before he f***ed off to Radio National or wherever) but she's pretty good.

I completely disagree that it's irrelevant, too. They often have same-day coverage of big events and happenings, which is great. They do a bunch of pre-done stuff but they're always up-to-date and have insightful looks at what is going on.

Last night there was a brief section on an Australia Day disturbance at the Hottest 100 venue - apparently some people were stealing s*** from the stage, and a couple of the JJJ presenters went around to check it out and found the cops had cable-tied a bunch of people who had been pepper sprayed. One of the JJJ guys (can't remember which one) had a camera and was taking photos or video or something, and the cop told him to stop and asked for his camera so he could delete the footage - so on Hack last night they talked about whether that was something the cops could do. They got on someone to explain the situation (they can't, unless they are confident the camera has been stolen or used in a crime). That's f***ing useful information for people to know in this day and age.

Ok, so I am a serial radio-flicker, but I did catch this story, and I did find it interesting. And yes, I agree that it is useful information.

Also, the other story loosely related to the thread here "wtf is with all the .au flags" about nationalism was also interesting. And Urth Boy from the Herd as an interview guest (an artist with an intelligence is nice for a change) was interesting.

BUT, last night's program was an anomaly for me. Most of the time I think, "Another story about someone with a mental problem." and flick the channel to Nova or something mindless.

And how many times have they 'reported' police sniiffer dogs? (Most recently: http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hack/notes/s1697099.htm )

There's reporting, and there's opinion and agenda. I like my reporting like, "This is a story." - but Hack to me is too full of agenda.

Geez, im realy out of the scene, i hardly know any of those songs on the hottest 100 list, a few yars back i would know pretty much all of them.

I made the switch about 1-2 years ago to 612 ABC, yeah i know im an old man (im actually only 27)

triple j just went downhill since adam and will left. Jay and the doctor were kinda ok, but now thats its only one of them and some other guy and a chick, it might as well be any commecial station, with the 2 guys and dumb chick formula.+

at ninety-two? f*** what is wrong with you people?

Oh what the f*** people. I can't believe you have different tastes than me! Of course my taste in women, computers, life, sex, drugs, games, and even music is better than yours. What the f*** is wrong with you?

MGMT - Kids
Kings of leon - Sex on fire
MGMT - Electric Feel
Empire Of The Sun - Walking On A Dream
Presets - Talk like that
I know there were a few vampire weekend songs thrown in there for good measure to. Good songs those :).

And thats all i can remember for now. Most of the other ones were just clicking cool artists names .

an unusually sub-par trolling effort from rza. let's hope his form picks up as the new year continues.
