Is it possible to start a raid group with less than 5 people?

Last weekend we did a run thru UBRS with 4 players and the leader turned it into a raid. So unless I was AFK for a bit and didn't see a 5th join how did he do it?

You can start a raid with 2 people. Why you'd want to, I don't know.

Invite person to group. press your raid option and convert to raid.

Theres a multitude of reasons why you might want to get into a raid with 2ppl. But usually its because you want to get inside your raid ID to talk to an NPC or something.

Because with some of the dungeons you need to be in a raid group or you can't enter, so that's why I wanna know.

EDIT: Ah coolies. I did not even see that convert to raid option at the top. Too busy reading the 5 man part and missed it. Thanx heaps.

8-)

Sorry, I was talking about the raid creation option in the context of 5-manning UBRS. There's no reason to do it as a raid at this point in time.

Looking back over my post, I can see that I wasn't clear about that.

Used to have to do it to get into zg (pretbc) for hand ins or Kara (post tbc) to get quest bits after wings despawned.

You would also need a raid to solo or 2 man Onyxia or similar.

Onyxia puts out

Yeah, a mate and myself are just about to run UBRS for the last part of the Onyxia chain. After that we're gonna try MC, AQ and ZG.

Not too sure. Just doing all the quest so it's goes towards the Loremaster title. Already got Ambassador, Explorer and Jenkins.

They removed the need for attunement for Onyxia.

Next patch they're also changing some of those older instances a little so that for example you only need 1 person to click on the orb at the fire guy in UBRS rather than the current 3 you need.

Yeah I was just thinking, Rev is a total noob

And I guess the other thing I don't understand, is why would you turn a 4 man group into a RAID?

I guess apart from the obvious, that it will PREVENT you from doing group quests

You can't zone into raid instances without being in a raid, fairly common thing to do for example farming the zg mount.

Hrm, maybe I was thinking of LBRS

It's been so long, but I assume UBRS requires a RAID group then

I dunno, I just assumed it was common sense to invite someone to form a group, then convert to RAID, to enter any dungeons when you got that message

People used to form raids for UBRS because UBRS was "serious business" back then and people would take the maximum at the time of 15 people to raid it.

That said, LBRS and UBRS are all technically part of the same instance and it's a "normal" instance in the sense that you don't need to be part of a raid group to zone in. The UBRS part of the instance however was tuned for a raid group and the quests in it were raid quests (i.e. quests able to be completed as part of a raid group).

Nowadays of course you don't need more than 5 people to do UBRS (and I believe it's been soloed except for clicking on stuff etc. where needed) and so there's no benefit to converting to a raid group except that if you convert to a raid group you can give everyone an assist so they can help mark targets etc.
