Srsly?:
Chanting "push the doors in," the crowd pressed against the glass as the clock ticked down to the 5 a.m. opening.

Sensing catastrophe, nervous employees formed a human chain inside the entrance to slow down the mass of shoppers.

It didn't work.

The mob barreled in and overwhelmed workers.
and
The Black Friday stampede plunged the Valley Stream outlet into chaos, knocking several employees to the ground and sending others scurrying atop vending machines to avoid the horde.

When the madness ended, 34-year-old Jdimytai Damour was dead and four shoppers, including a woman eight months pregnant, were injured.
Just for a sale.

Black Friday: markets suffer biggest loss in 21 years

Does everything bad that happens on a Friday necessarily mean it is called Black Friday? Can't the media call it doomsday Friday or something else?

'Black' has a lot of negative connotations for Americans I guess.

it's crazy; they have 32" lcd tvs for $350 - and that's not even the 5am price.

So hard going to best buy and keeping the wallet holstered.

Black is not the faux pas it used to be; Since the election, TNB has lost much of it's trendiness. Let's see how it rides out.

Well if you look at the pictures of the crowd then Black Friday has more meaning.

No you idiot. Only in America would someone get trampled to death by a horde of customers trying to get into a super market to save a few bucks.

Black Friday here is the day after Thanksgiving, where all the shops have their big sales (ie. Like our Boxing Day). In theory, it's the day where all the shops all get out of the red, through increased sale of inventory - hence the name.

And this is likely going to happen in Australia some year, on Dec 26th...only a matter of time...

Two People Dead In Toys "R" Us Shooting
(CBS/AP) Two people are dead in a Black Friday shooting at a crowded Toys "R" Us in Palm Desert, Calif.

City Councilman Jim Ferguson says police have told him that the victims were two men with handguns who shot each other.

The councilman says his question is: who takes a loaded gun into a toy store. And his answer is: "I doubt it was the casual holiday shopper." Authorities are still investigating but indicate the shooting may have been gang related.

2 more bite the dust.

I'm pretty sure what stores do is they heavily discount a few items to get the customers.
