headin over to the uk/ireland for over a month next week. Now I know alot of qgl'ers have lived / worked over there I was wondering if anyone has any idea where to pick up some good thermals in bris..

i really have no idea as ive never needed these...

To be honest, you probably won't need them and would become a nuisance more than a benefit. Most places are heated and if you're outside you'll be walking a lot.

I bought some from David Jones at the start of this year since I was going to Japan (a bit colder than UK/Ireland) and only used them when it got below 0 and was snowing .. even then I found them too hot after a while.

at the moment its sitting from -2 to about 6

ill also be heading up to scotland and stuff so its gunna bit a bit colder i assume

I never used my thermals, even when skiing over in France, but I bought them at the outdoor shops like mountain designs in the valley. Some people swear by them, but I never found the need for them (and I get really cold) and also found them uncomfortable. Also, it makes way more sense to me to wait until you're in the cold country to buy cold clothes. Not only are they cheaper generally, but they also make better clothes for cold weather.

check out kathmandu in the valley, they have some.

Other places like that (anaconda etc) might have them as well

Mountain Designs at DFO is where I got mine.
Used em a bit in Finland, not so much in UK/Ireland, but they're handy to have just incase.

A good, thicker, pair of jeans will serve you well.

I buy em bulk from kathmandu go for the thermalplus, rather than polyprop as they don't feel like soggy s*** under you clothes. But honesty -2 max isn't really all that cold, and as someone has already said most places are heated.

When you buy thermals, make sure you buy the expensive ones and not the cheapo ones. I've bought all mine from snow gear places. I won't go anywhere without my thermals. I usually just wear thermals, shirt and then your jacket or jumper over top. I lived for 10 months in northern japan, got down to -30 and had to walk to school in it. all I wore was my thermals, white t-shirt and school blazer. But I've never been to Ireland....

The only time it gets to -30 in Ireland is inside a freezer. Temps there really aren't that cold in comparison to places that do need thermals.

Yeh I sort of agree with the people that say you won't need them. If you're doing a lot of city stuff, anyway - you'll find they're nice when you're outside in the cold but as soon as you go inside you'll be sweating within about 5 seconds - and unlike a good jacket or whatever, you can't just peel it off easily and cool down.

If you're doing a lot of active, outdoor stuff you probably won't need them either - last (and only) time I was skiing I had them and spent the whole time sweating.

If you're in the UK/Ireland I'm guessing you'll be bouncing around a bit between indoors and outdoors so I suspect they won't be as important as having a kickass winter coat.

That said - they're relatively cheap and small so there's no harm in taking them and they might come in handy.

if your outdoors for more than 30mins, get some. otherwise its a ball ache. like trog said, get a good jacket

I got mine from Mountain Designs, but as stated above barely ever wear them. You're much better off making sure you have a GOOD coat (look at buying one hear as anything you get in Aus will be woefully inadequate), scarf and beanie.

do not get thermals, they s***ted me off when I was in Europe.. Stupid f***ing salesman here told me you have to get it all in layers, thermals, shirt, jumper, jacket and then wind breaker (something along those lines, but you get the point)... I was in europe in middle of winter for 2 months and was so f***ing pissed off about taking my "layers" off numerous times a day that I went into the local Nike shop, bought myself a f***ing massively padded with duck down/feathers jacket and would only need to wear one single shirt underneath, shirt was so I won't be naked top half when I took my jacket off.

yea my miss's family had me convinced I was going to freeze ( there english )

I do alot of work in fridges/freezers being a chef so i can handle it im sure!

Even at lowes and target you can get some slim fitting long sleeved cotton shirt and like pyjama pants, which would be almost as good as thermals but a lot cheaper. Get a few pairs of thick socks and a beanie, and you could probably go naked.

My only comment on this is that the jeans I bought in Australia I think must be a lot "lighter" or thinner or something. Or at least, that's what I thought, cuz the wind scythed through mine like I was butt-ass naked. I think next time I'll buy some jeans over there so I'm wearing the same threadz the Euros are.

You should have gone shopping while you were living in the gay district, then you'd look European and be warm too :p
Also, I'm in Vancouver at the moment, and everyone here (females) just wear leggings/tights, with guys wearing jeans. My jeans (bought in aus) seem warm enough, but my tight ones are warmer than the loose.
