^ my private (as in, not public health care) Gastroenterologist, mind you I only go to see him when I can't get an immediate appointment at the RBH level 9 gasto unit
he's $170 a pop, you get some of it back with private medical and medicare I believe

You need a referral from a GP to go to the RBH gastro unit

any naturopath will put you on the right track. the entire school of naturopathy revolves around the gut as the centre of all wellness.

profke in cleveland is a gut ninja.

Dont stop there. Goto a Psychic too.

Were you recommended to go by a GP ?
If not you could try some Yakult.
That stuff is magical for gut problems.

The same drugs that have undergone years of extensive testing and proven that they have better ability to deal with the problem then the next best thing. You'd be silly to ignore such medication.

no one trusts the financial adviser that gets kick backs from super funds but for some strange reason we like to trust doctors that get free holidays amd other goodies from big pharma to promote their drugs.

"Just ask you doctor." I love those ads.

The naturopathy course/structure/association is far too weak to demand any sort of universal respect amongst the general public. I've had a few friends that have studied it and a basic applied science degree is more thorough and demanding then what these full fee paying institutions are churning out.

There's definitely some really good natuopaths out there, but they're the ones that are improving their skills and knowledge consciously. The majority of them are douches that plonked down $20k to a private institution and have basic health knowledge and a silly ego to go along with it.

I'll take a real doctor anyday if it was a blind decision, the education is just better.

gastroenterologists deal with liver/spleen/kidneys/stomach etc

theres f*** all a natropath can do for you if you've got hepatitis or PBC (Primary Biliary Cirrhosis), kidney disease etc

also hepatitis does not have to be sexually contracted or via needles etc, its just a generic name for any disease which attacks your liver

So you seriously think that we need guns because if there was a major civil disturbance and everyone was armed with lethal weapons it would make it a better situation AND that doctors aren't there to help us! They will jeopordise our health by prescribing inappropriate medications to make a few extra bucks!

f*** man you and smashcrab should get a room.

Mmm, yes, GPs do base their clinical decisions on, and make the majority of their money from, pharmaceutical companies. d*******.

By the way, when a drug company rep provides me with a soggy salad wrap for lunch, AND unlimited company pens, PLUS if I am REALLY lucky, a laser pointer, I will ALWAYS choose to prescribe their medication over other more effective, less dangerous medications. That's just the way I roll.

This is bulls*** and you people have no idea what you're talking about. I bet someone is going to spout "why we haven't found a cure for anything recently!" thinking they are smart.

There is some truth to the power of big pharma.

Low Dose Naltrexone is a drug that is trivially cheap to produce. There have been a lot of anecdotal claims (sometimes backed by doctors) of its efficacy in the treatment of diseases like Multiple Sclerosis.

There is no money in it as a treatment though, so there is little to no funding for proper studies into it. Big Pharma funds almost all the studies that take place for new drug therapies.

That's not to say that there is a big conspiracy stretching to the GP to prescribe unnecessary medicine; just that its not in the commercial interest of pharmaceutical companies to pursue therapies that don't realise profits. This should be a no-brainer when you think about it, but lots of people get very upset about it.

Governments can't (and shouldn't) rely on commercial pharmaceutical companies to do all the heavy lifting for disease treatment R&D.

Agree, they should be funding the s*** out of universities and the results should be made freely available. If big pharma had to compete with unis for patents it'd make the playing field really interesting. Maybe this happens already, no idea?

I loved that episode of The Hollowmen where big pharma invites the bureaucrats to talk about their new drug they needed funding and all big pharma was interested in doing was giving the govies free s*** and feeding them seafood dinners and piss.

Good ol' big pharma... profit is not the objective, it's healing people!

Nat's: Have you been able to see a gastro specialist yet?

I have a list of doctors you can talk to who may be able to shed some light on whatever you're going through. I'm not entirely sure what you're up against, but I've never been the same since I fought off 4 boughts of food poisioning whilst I was in asia at the end of 2006. I came back in January of 2007 and my health slowly declined until I hit rock bottom in about May of 2007. I took 8 months off work because I just couldn't get through a normal day. Ever since then I've been to a stack of doctors, specialists, naturopath's and quack's to figure out what is going on and none have yet been able to find a solution to my situation.

Either way I have a list of specialists who might be able to help you out.

I'll find their cards when I get home and stick up some contact details for them.

Personally I don't have much faith in doctors.

Most of them just match symptoms to clinically proven diseases / issues and try and give you a magic pill of some kind to mask the symptoms without every really addressing the underlying issues. Most doctors don't seem to want to know why those symptoms are being caused.

And if you're subclinical (they don't see symptoms they recognise and can match to a disease / disorder) then they just pass you around from specialist to specialist or try and tell you that it's all in your head or that you're depressed.

I guess thats why alternative medicine is so big these days...
It'd be nice if both camps of alternative and allopathic medice all worked together in a synergistic fashion for the benefit of human kind.

dead right wolfieee - u need pharmaceutical drugs to treat serious diseases, no doubt, but to facilitate the healing process over the longer-term, (which can only arise from within the body and cannot be forced to happen... well yes u can use steroids they have side-effects...) more milder forms of medicine, and other techniques including exercise, using food as medicine, certain well-being therapies that help the body relax and the brain slip into meditative theta wave patterns, all can play a role in gently nurturing the human organism into health.

Nobody should bag out Dr.s because they are smart f***ers
