I have steam watch installed and have set it to gamearena only. Content seems to be borked now. Have the IP addresses been changed at some point?
Steam watch has 203.46.104.7 and 203.46.104.8 as the Ip addresses. Is that right? |

one's sposed to be public, one's sposed to be bp customers only. the distribution is handled by valve though. and yes those are the correct ip addresses and they haven't changed in at least 12-18 months

huh what! you can set where it dl's from?! Not exactly. SteamWatch is more of an IP blocker/whitelist-er for Steam. The Steam client will keep cycling through content servers until it is able to get through to one and connect. You just tell SteamWatch to block all Steam connection attempts except those to GA. The GA server might be the first server in the list that the Steam client tries, or it could be the last - it's generally random. Problem is the Steam client gives up with an error after several unsuccessful attempts (if GA is too far down the list of servers to try), so the SteamWatch IP blocking approach isn't perfect. last edited by parabol at 16:50:57 19/Oct/08 |

It really is disgraceful that Steam doesn’t have the ability to select your preferred content server. I can’t see a reason why the cant provide the option :(
Thanks for the info Jim. Steam is being s***ty then. I can only download content if I turn off steamwatch. last edited by E.T. at 17:08:36 19/Oct/08 |

e.t. it's also possible that the ga steam content server doesn't have what you're after. afaik it doesn't hold everything

I had steamwatch installed but it borked my steam after a week or so.
But, I've never actually seen my steam download from any other content server than Internode since I switched to node as isp. |

^ Good thing is all Australian steam servers are desginated free traffic for node users :)
So I don't ever bother with SteamWatch, etc as I'm very unlikely to get overseas servers. |

Thanks Boba. The thing I've been trying to install is DIPRIP. Do you know if that is hosted?

I do know that the internode servers supposedly hold everything.

I do know that the internode servers supposedly hold everything. Nah I'm quite sure they've said they don't know exactly what's on it. I don't think it's under their control. Also depends on available storage capacity, etc. |

happened with the telstra one as well jabroney, saying the certificate has expired
and on a totally unrelated note, telstra login page doesnt work very well! it stops loading in half way and then u gota refresh the page, sort of like a little kick in the ass to remind it that it has to continue loading! |

yep, ditto. Took like 2 hours to download portal:prelude today. Going at like 250kb/s but also it was losing packets as well.

Nah I'm quite sure they've said they don't know exactly what's on it. yeah it's all handled by valve they recommended what hardware to purchase, they log in and install the software and control everything about how it works, who gets sent to it, and what exactly is served from your content servers. if they don't have enough space to store all the content you don't find out until your customers complain. and you can't tell by looking at the content on the disk either because it's all disguised. |
