After 6pm. Not allowed to be emptied before that. If they are emptied before that during the day, they will be emptied again after 6pm.

The one near my old house used to get collected between 6:30 and 7 usually. |

Like Slinky says, the general rule is if you post something by 6pm it'll be collected that day. However, it's always best to check each post box because some are collected at different times. For example, when I've been in NSW and out west I've seen collection times that included 2:30pm, 4:30pm (Blue Mountains) and of course, 6pm. So if you live in the sticks, it might be earlier than 6pm. Check the side of the box.
