Topic: 5 mouthfuls to the Pint?

An interesting topic came up at the coffee table today.

Over the weekend one of the people from work was out drinking with some friends of the family one of which happend to be Irish. This Older Irish man was upset at the way the workmate was drinking Beer because apparently there is a specific amount of mouthfulls it should take to down one. 5 for Gunniess and 4 for 'Lighter' ales and what not. Thats some pretty bug mouthfuls.

This guy had numbers for a few different sizes (not pots, thats something i've never seen overseas either actually)

Anyway, after a quick google I couldn't really come up with anything in relation to these beer drinking rules so it put it to the QGL comunity.

How many mouthfuls does it take you to finish a Pint?
Any insite/links to this tradition/rule?

He was Irish and therefore crazy. Takes me as many mouthfuls as I feel like to finish a pint.

A pint of guiness in 5 mouthfuls sounds pretty crazy, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

Imperial (UK) 20 fluid ounces = 1 pint = 0.568 litre

Last I checked a stubbie is 375ml - so we're talking about drinking about a third of a stubby in a normal beer 'mouthful'?

Pisshead Irish..

to be honest how you drink beer should depend on the position all the planets in our solar system ...

you can tell what nationality a person who drinks a guiness by the rings left on the glass... well not really but anyaway... every time you take a gulp you leave a ring mark and yes by most irish standards 5 is the average (as much as white men cant jump!) although my mate at work (who's irish) takes 7 and is the one that informed me of such an equation.

Well a pot is half a pint y'see, which is sometimes known as a 10 glass due to it being closest to 10 fluid ounces. In north qld in times gone past it was common to have a 7 glass (200ml) as the standard, if not only glass. Apparently also in NQ they used to have a 'chicken' which was 5 fl oz. You'd have that between ends whilst playing lawn bowls.

Anyone who complains that a pot is too small can f*** off outta sunny queensland.

some old c*** bar flies drink it in two sips, no s***, they order one, let it settle for like 5 mins and then take one sip, order another then drink the remaning half pint and the start on the new one whilst ordering another

and so on.

I can tell you the Irish are f***ing awesome at drinking and they drink all the f***ing time, we had a crazy Monday night session last night - that's not uncommon
