I just got a 2nd hand compaq p1220 22" CRT monitor. Didn't come with a VGA cable so I picked one up from Umart. $18 for M-M VGA cable.

I'm experiencing some fairly hefty ghosting with it. Is there anything I can do to fix?

I've googled and it's said a s***e vga can be the cause, and this one certainly looked like a budget no name job. Where can you get a good quality vga m-m cable?

Perhaps this would be better?

does moving the cable around and coiling it affect the ghosting? if not it might not be the cable

also try pressing f8 on startup and choosing vga mode

change PCs
change Video Cards
change drivers
change resolution
change refresh rate
change power cable
change power points
change buildings (interference/radio noise)

then report back on your findings

also
did you pay for a CRT monitor?
if so
did you see it working before you bought it?
was it ghosting then?

Yeah I paid for it. It was just an impulse buy as I currently had a 17" crt which was faded and i need something bigger but I don't game anymore so I figured i could save myself spending $280 on a 22" lcd.

I was a bit of a noob though and didn't see it running first. Perfect condition on the outside it didn't occur to me it would have problems (good brand crt's have always been very solid in my experience).

I'm still pretty happy with it but the ghosting is a bit annoying. It's mainly visible on light (white) backgrounds, fine on dark pages like qgl

Also, when I hit F8 it just gave me boot device options - no VGA option.

It is possible it is the cable. I had a s***e cable for an old PC at my place. It ghosted, really noticeable at anything > 800x600. Recently replaced it with a new cable I got with a new TV. All ghosting issues gone.

had a fiddle with the cable and i could see the ghosting change, and i tightened it up a lot and it's improved significantly. still got a bit of it tho so ill see if i can refund this cable and get one from that site.
