I can see the App store in iTunes and have downloaded a handful of free ones, but I can't see anywhere how to pay/update to 2.0??? Anyone done it yet?

Oh I see, 2.0 doesn't come out at the same time as the iTunes 7.7 update... apparently we have to wait until it's the 11th in the US.

The iPhone 2.0 firmware has hit the net, but it's not technically official yet, nor is it for iPod Touch.
Word is it will only be a few hours before the updates show up in iTunes |

Bad, have you tried doing it that way? I'd kinda rather do it the official way to avoid as much hassle as possible...

yeah, that's the firmware. I've read reports that it's not unlockable, not jailbreakable, and not downgradeable, so I won't be going near it till I see confirmed reports that it won't essentially brick (at least temporarily) my phone.

yeh good move. Although, the iPod Touch seems to be pretty invulnerable to bricking. I still haven't read one single case where it was irreversibly bricked.

Can't find the Spore creature creator yet:( I'd probably be willing to pay for that to test out an app with a cost. I've downloaded a s***load of free ones. A lot of them look similar to the free stuff I could get when I had the iPod jailbroken.

the mother f***ers still haven't fixed the time bug - if iTunes is already open, my ipod syncs the wrong date and time... it's a known bug that happens to a lot of people. How f***ing hard could it be to fix? It means that every time I plug in my iPod I have to close iTunes first.

Is there any way to play Divx/Xvid content on iPod touch? I heard there was a VLC type player for it. Anyone used it? |

Anyone had any luck yet? iTunes is telling me there's an update, but when I click "learn more" it tries to open the store but fails...

Well... after losing the $25 worth of apps I paid for in the last update, I decided to illegally download this update (which woudl have cost me another ~$10). So far it's all working perfectly. Still syncing so haven't played with the apps yet.

Yep no deal. I still have my apps as I haven't formatted yet, but Learn More goes to a white 'iPod' screen then back to the device page...
Apparently no-one anywhere in the world can get 2.0 yet. Apple support say 1-2 days. |

I'm upgrading now, seems to be working fine. this sure is lame though:
http://trog.qgl.org/up/haha-ipod-upgrade.jpg edit: full process completed, took about 10 minutes and my ipod is rebooting now. f***ing unimpressed about losing all my data. Why can't the system stuff on the ipod be stored and managed independently of the user space stuff? I'm no magical embedded device designer but if this Mac OS X thing is all its cracked up to be, surely they could have have a separate partition or mount point or something for the OS and one for user data and maintain them independently. last edited by trog at 14:46:41 12/Jul/08 |

The first VOIP app is listed... search for "truphone". I'd be interested to see how well it works... Fairly useless here beacuse of the cost of data plans.
